I blame the restaurants. They shouldn't have a closing time, they should have a last seating time. How are customers supposed to know how long it takes you to shut down? Do I have to get there an hour before closing, 2 hours? Again, how am I supposed to know? It's not a good situation for the customer either, I often find even if there's an hour to an hour and a half left when I get there and order the food quality is often subpar. You're the business, you tell me when I'm able to come and get the service level I expect, don't put that shite on me so your whiny arse employees can blame me for your failure to properly set the rules of your establishment.

While I agree with you, there is the difference between the restaurant vs. the employee. In most restaurants, the person who makes the call on "operating hours" is not in the restaurant at this time. The poor service doesn't come from this person - it comes from the BOH and FOH employees who view 10pm closing time as no customers in the building past 10pm.

Not saying I think it is okay for them to give half arse service, FWIW.

I've seen these threads on here before and there are always assholes that consider "servers" and the restaurant industry as their personal servants. Grow the frick up. You never know what server or cook you piss off is just doing the gig while in school to at some point save your life or defend you in court. Anybody going into a restaurant even a half hour before close for anything but a quick drink should be horsewhipped
