I dunno. Was the car in the way? That behavior wasn't implicit in you original post.

WTF does this mean? Did he tell you he runs an OB clinic out of his “Goodtimes Van”?

I'd change the locks so my landlord couldn't trespass again.

This has been forbidden in every lease I've signed since I sold my house. I changed the deadbolt to one I could set codes to, just in case. Ordered the wrong version that I couldn't re-key, and I was technically in violation of the lease until I got the proper one installed and re-keyed to the key I was given two days later.

He is "literally" a doctor and should not be renting.

Additionally, the landlord let herself into our friends half so she could move her car while she was out of town this past weekend so they could have more parking during parades (they are the people who put trash cans out and think that gives them the right to public parking spots). I found that incredibly inappropriate and I’d be livid 1 if my landlord let themselves into our apartment and 2 drove our car.

Unless I was good friends with my landlord and had a heads up, this is something I would break a lease over and dare them to hit me with any additional billings.

He could be in residency and not yet making "doctor" money.

If I were the OP as the friend coming to stay for Mardi Gras, I'd bring the landlord a bottle of wine or king cake and introduce myself. It's amazing how far actually talking to someone can get you.

We’ve been staying here for years whenever we come back to New Orleans and have met the landlords probably a dozen times. They know we aren’t trouble makers.

They’re just lunatics apparently. Again these are the people that think putting trash cans with police line tape in front of their house lets them own that public parking space while they’re gone.

I’d put money on tenants being on thin ice due to a previous occurrence that OP doesn’t know about

The unannounced intrusion and grabbing shite off of their counters, moving the car, doing damage to the car all laid that out. How did the landlords know your friend wasn't home? This is shady as shite. Even a "hey, can I move your car," text would have been better than what they did, although still out of bounds.

I’d be incredibly shocked. This friend is incredibly well manicured. Her house is always completely clean when we’re there and she’s a very passive personality. Not confrontational or trashy or aggressive at all. She’s never ever any kind of trouble and again has always been a bright person and is now a doctor. She’s the perfect person anyone would want as a tenant.

They communicate regularly since they are next door neighbors. She probably told them she’d be out of town for the weekend.

Where did the landlord move the car? Has your friend allowed the landlord to do this before? Seems outrageous. I'd take my keys with me from now on.

I avoid my renters like the plague. If I start going into the rental they're going to bug me about something.

It's pretty easy for me to do so as I'm 2600 miles away

Why are you still staying in your friend's rented Duplex? MOVE ALREADY. The lease is between your friend and the landlord. You are not part of the agreement. The Landlord does not rent to you.

You sound like a freeloader and trouble starter.

Might not be them or may have been other guests. Just speculating if the tenants never voiced concerns in the past.

What? Do yall not stay with friends when you go to visit them? We live states away and come and stay with them for Mardi Gras. They stay with us when they come visit. What a bizarre post.

We don’t live in New Orleans and have our own place
