arse to grass is for cross-fitters, if you are into that sort of thing
haha go tell tom platz that, the bber with the best legs of all times.
also arse to grass is easier on your knees than parallel. Your knee is nothing but a lever, force is greatest on the joint at parallel.

Man that guy has the best legs I've seen

I was joking to an extent. As I mentioned on the last page, different ROM activates different tension and muscles for different people. There is no one size fits all, everyone is built different. It also depends on goals. I'm sure you know all this......

Yeah I should have clarified and asked how it stacked against the other programs in regards to strength and powerlifting.
Im going to have to try the grey skull since I have never tried

I have done Stronglifts 5x5 since September of 2015. I have lost about 30lbs and got into the best shape of my life. I used it in preparation for a summit attempt of Mount Rainier and was successful in doing so.
I love the simplicity of it and that I can get it done during the day at work even when I am super busy.

Your whole arse to grass thing is an arbitrary standard derived from olympic lifters and most recently a crossfitter trend.
Well I don't crossfit, and the only reason someone shouldn't be able to squat below parallel is because of mobility. We are all capable of arse to grass as infants but our sedentary lifestyles have rendered almost all of us immobile. You put less pressure on your knees if you go into a full squat.

There is no one size fits all for squats
I never said there is. Some people will have to squat in squat shoes to stay balance because they lack ankle mobility. Some will have to loosen their hips for an extended period of time prior to squatting. Some will have to low bar only. Some will have to go slightly wider with their foot spacing or tweak their toes further outward. There is no excuse or reason for someone not to squat properly

Here are some good programs for us older guys.

I have been doing the blink41 since March and it has definitely been good for me. It helped me get ready and recover from reconstructive knee surgery as well. I did have to adapt it some after the surgery but now I am back doing all of the exercises 3 1/2 months after surgery.

No doubt. I'd go arse to grass if I could, but scar tissue in my right hip isn't going to let that happen anytime soon. Don't have the patience for the mobility that I'd need.

I like it because it is easy and I'm in and out of the gym in 30 minutes including warm-up and cool down stretches.
How in the hell? I can see when you're first starting out but as my numbers went up, so did the length of my workouts.
It takes me at least an hour. Sometimes an hour and a half especially on dead lift days.
I started April 1st of this year after going through PT with a bum shoulder and years of being a sedentary fatass. I started with the bar and now have my numbers up there pretty good.
3 Things:
1) I'm a busy guy, honestly with work, family, other activities I don't have 1.5 hours to work out.
2) I do sacrifice some things, I know with my workouts I won't gain strength (care a little) or size (don't care at all) as fast as other workouts, I'm ok with that.
3) My gym times happen when the gym isn't crowded and I move quick.
I'm fine if people crap all over this workout but last week one of my workouts:
5 min row to warm up (5-8 mins including setup, etc.
5 x 5 deadlifts including one lighter warm up set to begin, after each set 45 sec timed rest, then 5-7 bar pull ups, then another 30 sec rest, the another set of deads. (15-18 mins)
3 sets of barbell rows, 1 min rest between (5-8 mins)
About 5 mins of stretching (sometimes skip this) with maybe two more sets of pullups mixed in (5-6 mins)
Overall about 30-35 mins, works great my needs.
Took a little more than 30 minutes.

I never go super heavy, but I squat barefoot - on rubber stall mats.
I have pretty good flexibility and I can almost get ATG nearing 50 - I'm probably more flexible now than in my 30s. I don't obsess about it, but I do work on it.

Your in the gym wth a plan. If anyone on here complains about that then what does that matter to You?

What do you baws suggest for working hip mobility?
Posted on 12/6/16 at 6:28 pm to upstate
Stretching and Kelly Starrett or Donnie Thompson.
I'm guessing this routine is based off the old Bill Starr. Workouts should be lengthy due to rest between sets. Only three exercises due to volume and intensity. Start slow and don't try to speed things up in the intensity category or you will crash and burn. Definitley deload.

A great thing to look into is conjugate. I've always had better results with conjugate or undulating.
Posted on 12/6/16 at 6:41 pm to The Egg
I do 5x5 once a week. I rotate which day I do it. Definitely helps with gains.
Posted on 12/6/16 at 6:46 pm to Rossberg02
I agree about building the subtle leopard for mobility also defrancos agile 8 is great and should be the warmup for every session.
As far as the conjugate method, most of the guys on here have never followed any program and are no way ready for a program that requires you to identify your weaknesses. Like I posted earlier
StrongLifts/starting strength--->greyskull--->mad cow/Texas method----> 531 or reverse pyramid training or D.C. Training etc

Threw it in there mainly to find ppl who know what they're talking about.
531, drags and pushes with a sled, and adequate rest/diet would be my ideal beginners.

Problem with 531 as a true beginners program is that you are only doing monthly progression with built in reload. That's way too slow for a true beginner or even intermediate. Essentially optimal would be
Progression every workout on 5x5--> 3x5 maxing third set and continuing the progression every workout--> weekly progression-->monthly progression--> periodization or conjugate method.
