Already plenty of great advice in here esp on the Omega watches.
Why all the hate for someone that wants a great watch?

Not everyone buys a watch looking to sell it later.
Any watch I ever buy I plan to keep.
I don't plan on selling it either. I just like things that appreciate in value (or at least hold some value). That's why I drive a 11 year old truck and bought it used.
I look at it this way...
A Tag is $2000. In 25 years, it's worth <$1000
A Rolex/Patek/Breitling are $5000++++. In 25 years, the are worth at least what they sold for (or close to it)

I've had a Tag for 20 years and only changed the battery . Looks good with jeans or a suit . Why would you want to sell your watch anyway .

Like I said in my last post, I don't plan to sell it. But if I did, it would be for an up grade.

Get an Iron man watch. It tells the same time as a $5000 watch.

$4k is steep for a time piece, particularly in an age where the time is stamped on your cell phone, and is readily available on your desktop, laptop, etc. However, with gold or silver involved, it could be a nice investment, maybe even an heirloom piece that would mature in value, and certainly jewelry for the discriminating.
However, to those of us who still have our grandfather's and father's watches, there is a certain amount of sentimental effect associated with these items. Fine watches are also engineering marvels, even in today's machine age.
I like the one up top. I paid a little extra to get more iron in the casing to protect it from being demagnetized and for the heavier feel. Keeps perfect time. Ball watches evolved from the company that kept time for the U.S. railroads.
The term "on the ball" indicated you were operating on accurate, "Ball" time, earning the popular phrase, "He's on the Ball!"
They say for every hundred dollars you spend on a time piece you should get a year of use. So, if you spent two grand you should have use of the watch for two decades.
Good luck.

A nice timepiece no longer provides utility like it used to...which makes it no longer necessary gear or equipment but a piece of jewelry.
If you are ok with knowing you are purchasing a piece of jewelry then by all means go for it. Just know that while wearing a nice watch does NOT make you a douchebag - ever mentioning how much you paid for it DOES make you one.
Personally if I was in your position I would use the money to go on a nice trip somewhere. Memories and life experiences are worth more to me than a piece of jewelry.

Watches with bracelets are jewelry, watches with straps aren't...IMO obviously.

If you like the look of a Milsub like Rolex, check out the Steinhart Ocean 1... there's many models with the ETA 2824. I like the looks of the Vintage.
Another good Milsub is Squale
You know about Rolex, Omega, Tag, etc. because they have good marketing. Doesn't make them the best value, they just have a good marketing department.

"They" is a retard.
This 1958 Omega is still ticking along and keeps time very well.
Made in a time where a watch like this would good daily wear item for a middle-class professional.

Something about buying jewelry in the mall doesn't sit well with me. Around here, I go to Boudreaux's or Aucion Heart

Real men wear 5.11 watches.

I look at them all as jewelry, more practical than most jewelry, but jewelry nonetheless. Maybe accessory is a better word than jewelry. Not that there is anything wrong with that, I love watches.
I hope to get a Stowa or Black Bay as my next.

Most of us splurge on something others do not understand
The question for me always I why I am I doing this?

A Rolex Submariner will be worth more than you paid for it in 20 years if you take decent care of it.
I bought a Rolex 30 years ago new for $1050.
I hardly ever wear it so it's in like new condition. Replacement value now is over 5 grand. One day, some descendent is going to get a nice watch !
