That is way too busy for my taste.

When's the last year they made the 'sapphire sandwich' for the speedy? I wouldn't get a manual wind watch unless I could see the beautiful movement.

I'm not sure but they use to make a Hesalite/Sapphire combo. That would have been the best. After looking through a few photos, I would go with the hesalite without an exhibition back.

That's not good style to me. Why so much shite on there? It's like they can't decide what to leave out. The dial should be larger, the bezel is just dumb for that watch (minus that cool dot on the top), the lugs are poorly shaped...but hey it takes all types.

To each their own. I like simple too but I dig that watch as well.

The colors are great, normally pink would look like shite...but between the black and red it's cool as hell.

Good choice.

I like the Black Bay also, but prefer the inhouse movement.

Datejust or Seamaster. Be prepared to pay in the hood of $5-6k for the Datejust

Might be a touch more, but a manual Speedmaster 42 is the way I'd go.

This is my current dream watch. Beautiful classic design. Great history.

There are a lot of options and brands at that price range. Rolex or omega are great choices. Breitling seems to have too much going on with the dial, but I hear it is a great watch. Then you have other watches like Tudor, Baume and Mercier, Tag, etc. A jeweler told me that lower end watches other than brands like Omega, Rolex, Cartier, etc. all share the same components (Tag, Ebel, etc); I don't know the validity of that claim.

Coming from an admirer and someone appreciative of nice watches, take your time deciding on this. You have earned this timepiece, as your wife is showing appreciation for everything you do. See jewelers and try several of them on. You will then realize that you want that watch which describes your story and history, whatever that watch may be. Who knows this may start your obsession with watch collecting. Enjoy the moment, especially when they present that puppy to you fresh out of the box. You earned that moment.

Omega and Rolex make their own movements in-house. They are technically manufactures. Tag, Breitling. etc. source their movements, typically from ETA, a Swiss company owned by Swatch. These are quality movements that are embellished a by the watch company during the build process.

If I am spending 3k+ I a getting an in-house movement.

If I want an ETA, I'll get a Squale, Steinhart, Ch. Ward, etc.
