OT Vets...best "diet" dog food?

I have a very "thick" beagle dog. I brought him to the vet a little over a year ago and they said he was fine to just put him on some diet food. They recommended Science Diet Light, he has been on this food since then and hasn't dropped a pound. I would like to try another brand to see if he benefits from that better. What brand do y'all think i should try?

Our vet showed us the exact amount of food our dog should eat every day. It surprised me how little it was. The vet had the calories for almost any food out there, so she said tell her what he likes, and this is how much he should eat.
Like most humans, you can eat all the healthy stuff you want but if you eat five pounds of it, you wont lose weight.

How much you feeding at a time? My 10 year old lab was put on the same thing and she dropped 20+lbs in about two months. I feed her three 8 oz cups a day. No more then that for a big dog. Your dog should be getting way less.

Do you have other dogs & watch them at feeding time? Ours can eat the 2 other dogs food in minutes. Is there food out all day? How many treats does it get daily?
I haven't found a good "diet" dog food. At one time the vet had us feed green beans to an overweight dog but I wouldn't do it again unless they were fresh & cooked at home.
Try something grain free & focus on watching treat intake. There are lots of natural treats like dehydrated sweet potatoes that are good for them.

To me, it sounds like the OP is still over feeding all together.

Get a measuring cup. Go to the manufacturer's website of the food you currently feed. There should be a chart available for amount to feed for a target weight. Start there. You may need to feed more or less based upon your dog's activity level. Be consistent and patient. It works.

I used Exclusive brand Healthy Weight Dog Food. I had a greedy older lab that got up to 90 lbs. We went to Exclusive and she trimmed down to 70 lbs with no issues. You can research it. Good reviews and not real expensive. I think I paid about $32 for 40lbs

We give our dogs Merrick. It's grain free and they have formulas for weight loss.
It's not cheap though...about $55 a 25 lb bag. However, we have noticed a difference in our dogs' health since switching foods. Shinier coats, less runny poops, etc. Our lab mix lost weight on that food.

Hill's ID low fat prescription...There's enough variety in this line to give your dog options. Hill's doesn't get the highest ratings, but your dog will get healthier and may never have diarrhea again.
