Close to 20 years on TD and it’s my first “help” post so take it easy.

Worried about my big guy (French Bulldog) because he has blood in his throw up and poop. Had a little bit of blood in his poop last night and diarrhea. Haven’t worried too much about the diarrhea because it’s not bad or constant and we’re in the process of switching foods. He’s got a sensitive stomach.

But we took him on a walk tonight and he threw up and it had a good bit of blood in it. Throwing up after a walk is common honestly because he gets so worked up and excited and the breed already has trouble breathing so he gets in from the walk, guzzles water, then throws it up. But never really throws up on the walk and has never had blood in it.

He’s going to the vet in the morning for sure but just seeing if I might need to take him to the ERr vet. He’s acting normal and playful.

TIA. Picture of the sweet boy…

If he’s got blood in both vomit and poop more than once or more than ‘normal’, you should already be at the vet. That seems like some sort of internal bleed that isn’t limited to just a rough meal or a scratchy throat.

Good luck for your buddy. Hopefully it’s nothing and he just had a few too many this weekend.

Emergency vets are so prohibitively expensive I'd seriously consider waiting until the morning. I hope that beautiful dog makes a full recovery.

Sadly the truth without pet insurance.

I guess it depends on how much blood you are talking. (Not a vet, just have a dog with a sensitive stomach)

My dog gets blood tinged diarrhea at least once a week, sometimes she coughs up blood tinged mucous as well. She has an extremely sensitive stomach and if she gets even a crumb of something, it will give her a stomach ache. We give her a maximum strength pepcid when this happens (per vet recommendation) and she’s usually fine in 12 hours. Vet said that the blood is just from stomach inflammation.

Now, if you’re talking straight blood and dark colored vomit, I’d head to the vet now

Ok thanks. We’re both on the more cautious side and don’t mind spending money on our dogs but man the ER vets are so dang expensive. We had a girl English bulldog die at this ER vet so I was hoping to never go back there. Ugh.

Was just guessing maybe an ulcer but figured he’d show some signs of pain/not acting himself if that was it. I guess we’ll make a trip.

I wouldn’t say it’s a lot in either. Just never had it in both before. The throw up was more mucusy type, not dark, but had enough to make us go “o crap that’s not good.”

He’s been on a prescription hydrolized protein food bc of his sensitive stomach but we were going to try to switch him to something different (basically so him and our girl dog could be on the same food) but that doesn’t look like it’s going to work.

Is he eating and drinking still? Any chance he could have gotten into rat poison?

Not really. Haven’t seen him chew on one in a couple days. Doesn’t eat them. Didn’t see any in the throw up.

Looks like mine… if you go to the ER be prepared to leave your soul there. They won’t accept anything less.

Does yours have skin issues? My frenchie is flaring up rt now but he’s going to have to just scratch because I spend too much money on him and bathe him twice a week as it is in medicated shampoo.

Feel that.

But only you know your dog and your willingness to spend money for him.

As others have said, flecks of bright red blood may just be something he got into. But I get the feeling that it’s more than that considering you were worried enough to ask about it. ER vet bills are no joke, but if it’s a bleeding ulcer etc., and you’re going to pay cash to save the guy, it only gets more expensive from here the longer you wait if it’s something serious.

If he waits and has a vet look tomorrow there will only be the difference of seeing the vet. He can also save money and time if he waits. That’s his judgement as the owner.

I had this issue several times with our Mini Schnauzer. If he acts like is is feeling okay and drinking a little I think you are okay. Malaise and not taking in water means you gotta go. Boiled chicken and rice helps a lot when you see it coming on.

Well yea. I said that in different ways multiple times in my posts.

He’s had a little bit of water and we just gave him some rice and he ate it up. Don’t really give them people food but Google told me rice would be good lol.

The more I watch him the more I think he might be fine but god I hate this.

Trust your gut. If he’s drinking ok, no more bloody vomit and he passes the rice, etc with no problems, you’re likely fine just getting him a checkup tomorrow.

I might change my mind in 10 minutes but right now I’m thinking I might wait. If he throws up again anytime before now and 7am and there’s blood in it I’m going. Or if he doesn’t drink any more water. But the way he’s acting has me thinking it might not be an emergency. But you’re right, I wouldn’t have started this if I wasn’t more worried than normal. Ugh.

We’re fortunate with the skin issues with both of ours. My dogs brother (my nieces dog) has bad allergies. I mean his eyes, face, belly are always red and he itches like crazy. Benadryl is like the only thing that helps him. I’m not sure if she’s tried a medical shampoo.
