The northwest and southern regions of the state is pretty rural. Northwest is beautiful rolling hills. Lots of neat little towns. You get a taste of all four seasons. Good pizza, bagels, pork roll, and delis.

Cons it’s way overcrowded everywhere else, including the beach. High taxes. People tend to be less friendly especially closer to the city you get

Don't forget Trenton.

Trenton isn't the same level of shithole as Camden, Newark or Patterson. The place is small, historical and the Delaware River setting is nice.

Hope you like taking it up the arse in taxes.

This, and a horrible state government. Other than that, I think it's a pretty nice state. Much better than it's reputation.

Everything west and south west of Newark is nice. Lots of smaller towns with beautiful subdivisions. Lots of trees and pretty areas. Almost similar to Southdowns /Highland Rd in a sense bc of the houses with lots of trees on the lots. You forget how close Newark and NYC are to you.

It’s like Lafayette, with slightly smarter people.

I moved to Hoboken in 2006 and we lived there until we moved to Asbury Park full time in 2015.
Hoboken was great for walking around town, bars, restaurants etc and you could be in NYC quickly.
Asbury Park is fantastic, walkable, lots of bars, live music etc. 2 blocks from the beach.
Taxes are ridiculous and real estate prices are through the roof right now.
Roads in Asbury are very reminiscent of New Orleans, poor condition and lots of potholes lol.

Agreed.

3 of the Top 50 per capita income ZIP Codes are in NJ, and they're all due West of Newark.

There's exactly one in Texas (downtown Houston), 12 in California.

Lived in Princeton for a few years. Beautiful town but very expensive real estate and taxes. Bucks County, PA across the Delaware is also a nice area.

I enjoyed the ethnic variety of food and restaurants. Different from LA, but not necessarily bad.

Princeton is a hop, skip and a jump up 206 for us. We go into Bucks via the New Hope-Lambertville Bridge. Park in Lambertville, do some shopping, walk across the bridge and have lunch. There's a lot of peaceful little Delaware River towns up here that are cool. Pork rolls suck, though. Jersey people love them but they're not good.

Grew up about 20 miles west of NYC. Moved to La in 1974. Expect housing cost to be 2-3X La. Expect property tax to be 5-10X La depending on where you live in both states.
20-30 years ago schools within 50 miles of NYC were closing because people of child bearing age couldn’t afford to live there.
Very liberal politically. Very strict gun laws. One of two states where you aren’t allowed to pump your own gas.
Very nice country in the north west part of the state.
A lot depends on where you are. Newark and Camden are awful. Union City was 70% Latino in the 70s-80s
If you’re a deer hunter, it’s shotgun only. Too crowded for rifles. There was a 5 day deer season with 1 doe day when I left
If you like to fish, prepare to stand elbow to elbow along stocked streams on opening day of trout season
All family and many friends have moved away so there’s little reason to go back.
