This is the most important step of running a half.

what did the week of the race look like for you with your workouts and diet?

taper if you want to peak for the race

as for diet, keep your same diet

you don't need to do anything different for a half

I'm mostly a casual runner and have done a couple of 1/2's in the past 3 years.

I've never run more than 25 miles in a week... even when I was taking it more seriously. In other words it will be a piece of cake for someone like the OP. Further, I'm not sure running that much is all that good for you over the long term.

Only on the OT is running a half marathon considered a wuss race.

Just go buy a 13.1 sticker and call it a day.

190-200 is where a man should weigh at 5'10". You're too skinny imo.

But, seriously, if you're 5'10" and 190 pounds of muscle, you probably look like an X-Man.

I'm just not sure why you would possibly say this.

The benefits of higher intensity training is just starting to be learned. We are learning that intensity does in fact matter.

So running is in fact better than walking. And running faster is better than running slower. Now granted, everyone needs time to recover, but a nice slow run is often considered a recovery run.

Now, I wouldn't recommend running seven days a week, but five or six is expected. As far as arthritis and the such goes, most studies now demonstrate no link between arthritis and running as long as the knees were healthy when you began running.

So, go ahead and run.

Interval training and weight training are much much better for you.

Just to put that in perspective for you, LSUs Golden Girls have a weight requirement. Their rule of thumb is 100 lbs at 5' and then 5 lbs for every inch over that. That means at 5'10" they want the girl to be at 150 lbs or below. Typically for men that don't want to look like Golden Girls, it's about 7-8 lbs for every inch over 5 foot.

5'7" should probably be around 149-156 lbs unless you are very muscular.
