Run the lakes at least twice a week and get those same looks... I’m not moving, walk your arse on the correct side of the road against traffic , I’m not moving when I know I’m doing it the correct way.
Also love the 2-4 abreast walkers....

If the law is stupid, yes. I'm not advocating for what legally is right at this point, just, what to me, make sense.

You think facing the most likely place danger will come from is stupid?

And you think breaking the law, even if it is stupid, somehow lessens liability?

But going with the flow of traffic is better for traffic, overall operation of vehicles, flow, etc..

So facing in a direction which allows you to account for oncoming traffic and move aside if possible will deter flow while obliviously facing away from it will somehow enhance traffic flow?

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say you just haven't really thought this through.

Um..read what I said. I said I prefer going against traffic. As an individual its safer. But I think that should make the liability switch to me since I am operating outside of the normal flow. I'm fine with this. And I'm speaking of both biking and running (even referencing the biking accidents) though I realize you are only responding from only a pedestrian/jogger perspective.

and move aside if possible

I rarely see a jogger "move aside" they are either already on the shoulder far enough off the lane (in which case its not applicable to your point) or they act like they own the lane. I never see a biker move aside.

I've always ran AGAINST traffic, so I can see what's coming toward me.

But I mean that's just me and this crazy notion that I don't want to be ran down from behind while running.

You run against traffic and cycle with traffic. Cyclists are supposed to obey all traffic laws. Runners should be given right of way.

Neither should be in traffic.

This was our disconnect. Biking is considered operating a vehicle and is required by law to be operated in the same manner as a car. In that you are correct.

I see this too. That is stupid on the joggers part but I think (not certain) pedestrians have the right of way when legally on the street. Bad practice and a-holish though.

Bikes are the same as cars on the roadway, from a legal perspective, unless prohibited, as on interstates. Still, it is wise to try to accommodate the thing that outweighs you by thousands of pounds.

Most walkers around the lakes have 2 breasts, this time of year.

Here’s the deal - if you go against traffic all the liability should be with you. A car turning right to come at you isn’t looking your way before they turn. Unfortunately I don’t think legallyfor liability it works this way. Buts it’s one of many reasons you are supposed to go with traffic even though you, as an individual, feel safer going against traffic.

If you're running against you can almost always see a car turning or trying to turn your direction even if they are not looking. That's the point. I don't trust people to look both ways so I'll routinely run around behind them to avoid problems. Running and driving on St Charles Ave teaches you to be aware of so many things going on.
