OT Runners - Any tips on preventing/treating coughing after running in the cold?

I've been waking up early each morning to run a few miles, and I'm hacking up a lung about fifteen minutes after I get done due to the cold air.
I dressed super warm this morning. Scarf, hat, ear muffs, leggings, long sleeve shirt, and pullover. Still feel like I'm having an asthma attack.

Do you smoke?
Be careful. I know a lot of runners who try to push through and end up with walking pneumonia.

I don't smoke. I had asthma as a kid though.

The cough is because the uterus shrinks to retain a steady temperature and this puts pressure on your diaphragm
The solution is to pump iron like a man

How cold are we talking? You can't possibly be in greater NOLA, right? It's barely been cold here all winter.
I've run in temps down to 0F without problems. People run in extreme cold... There are even marathons run in sub-zero artic weather, like this one.

Get an inhaler that contains Cromolyn Sodium. This drug blocks mast cells which release histamine and cause an inflammatory response. You are having a vasomotor reaction to the cold air and it is causing the cough. CS will block that response. It is the same response some people have when they eat hot sauce and their nose starts to run. This will work, I have seen it a million times.

Birmingham, AL. Not even that cold. Like 30 this morning.

Are you in good running shape? I have the issue when I'm really out of shape. But when I'm fit, I prefer the cold.

Talk to your doc first.

Is this the first time you have been running, like a new year's resolution? Or do you not cough in the warmer air?
typically runners do better in cooler weather.
I'd imagine the running is just breaking shite loose in your lungs and it should clear up after a few more runs.

Kinda a New Year's resolution thing. Started before the new year.
I am not in good running shape. I've been lifting weights for a while but noticed I'm getting fat. I can push to two miles on a run, but I'm pretty much jelly afterwards.
I don't cough when it's warm.

before you head out for a run, do some jumping jacks or push ups inside to get your heart rate up

Coughing fits after exertion, indicate COPD.

Are you breathing very heavily? Like is running two miles putting you at the limits of your cardiovascular abilities at the moment? I find faster breathing does it to me. When I'm out of shape I'm sucking air more, therefore the issue happens when I'm out of shape.
If so, just slow the pace down. Learn to run slow. Build a long and slow base and build speed later. You should be able to have a conversation while running pretty easily speaking in full sentences. Limit the hard stuff to <20% of your running. If I'm wearing the right clothes (not too warm, but fights the chill), running when it's in the 40s is awesome. I feel like I can go forever.

I don't have copd but since I was a kid if I ran in the cold, I would start coughing and would have jaw pain the whole time. When I was in the army and was in Virginia in the winter was the worse. Some people don't handle the cold well at all.
