OT peeps with the ceramic grills, if you have an 18” model, do you need more room?

Currently in the market for either a Big Green Egg, Primo, or Kamado Joe. Is it worth spending the extra cash for the room and getting the 24”? Do you find yourself fighting with the grill to make the extra space?

I feel like 18” should be plenty for me but I don’t know if it’ll be enough room if I wanted to host a bigger gathering.

I'd consider 24" the standard size, but if you are not feeding a lot of people 18" may be more appropriate. I never have enough space.

I'd get the 24

If you plan on entertaining guests you'll regret not going bigger

I have the Primo XL and wouldn’t want any smaller. Fill it up all the time.

I've had those and for whatever reason..be it nostalgia or just poor upbringing, if you're wanting to go with space.. I prefer a heavy duty barrel grill using just wood.

I would love to have a traditional smoker, but if you want a legit smoker those frickers are expensive as hell.

The Primo’s shape seems to give it much more space.

I have a primo XL (came with my house in a built in outdoor kitchen). I can’t imagine having anything smaller. You can do 3 racks of baby backs or maybe 3 racks of St Louis but it’s very tight. Any more, you have to use one of the racks which just don’t work as well as laying them flat. You can also smoke a full brisket at that size, no problem. Get the biggest one you can get. Once they are dialed in, you can set it and forget it, I’m amazed at how well it holds temperature. No need to sacrifice your manhood with a pellet grill.

I think I paid $500 for my primary grill, or what has become my primary. If its on the road I'll go with a smokey joe or old smokey type of situation.

So many people on the west coast are into traeger. Those kinda annoy me, almost too convenient to feel like you properly cooked something. Need a little aggravation for satisfaction.

Had the large BGE for years before upgrading to the XL….have no regrets and wish we had done it sooner. We grill 2-3x per week.

Wood burning smoker?

Because if you got a legit, not box store brand for $500 you got a deal.

I have a large BGE same one for last 15 years or so. Never ever wished I had the XL BGE. Overkill for the majority of cooks. Get the Large Egg or KJ.....

Get XL.

You won’t be upset having the room.

It’s like when people get a queen size bed and then regret not getting the king.

I got a good deal on it

Right place at the right time tbh, I know who it belonged to as well and they were moving. They also never believed in lighter fluid either..So none of that in the grill at any point is a plus.

Have an XL BGE and if you do sides you need the space, already looking at the eggspander rack to get more room even on the XL

Have a BGE XL and use the space up often. Makes it much easier for multiple pork shoulders or a brisket. The large struggles with just 1 brisket.

Thanks for the replies, looks like I’ll definitely be going with the 24”
