To steal a line from Jim Gaffigan, imagine yourself drowning and someone hands you a baby.

2 is easy, you can get a table at a restaurant and get one hotel room if traveling on a budget.
3 children rips a hole in time and space that you will never overcome.

Same. Our son is 14. I regret having only one, but damn they're expensive when you don't have family support around. Our nearest immediate family was 500 miles away.
Just daycare, diapers, and formula were around $1800/month.

You'll still be playing man on man defense.
When you go from 2 to 3, that's when you're gonna have to switch to zone.

My boy is 11, with all of the shite he's into I can't imagine having another. He's at sailing camp right now and before I dropped him off he said he really wants to get "into it". IDK shite about sailing.

Any free time you have now (1 kid), cut it by 75% for the 2nd.
Any free time you have with 2 kids, cut it by 75% for the 3rd kid.
And so on...

The big difference is you are both always busy. With one, your wife can take the kid to the store or whatever and you get free time. She gets home happy. With two or more when you have both kids, you are zapped. Also if your kid is under 3 and wakes up at night often, then it sucks getting up with a baby all night and then the baby wakes up the other kid or the other kid wakes up on their own in between the baby.
It's not as big of a jump as 0 to 1, but it's pretty close.

#1 to #2 is fine
#2 to #3 feels lile a wheel falling off your car going down the interstate

3 was a major issue. Like another poster said, two is still very manageable. When my third came, we had to buy a new house, minivan, etc. I just hope to pay my bills on time most months.

You have to go from the simple stacked base defense to a more sophisticated man to man coverage. You will find yourself on an island with the one kid more often, so it's more challenging and there is always a threat that you can blow an assignment and get burned deep. The real challenge comes when baby number three comes and you have to go to a more sophisticated zone defense where your responsibilities are more defined. As long as you have a good coordinator, you can do this.
