Cushions outside the crib. Take the front gate off. They won't fall as far.

My son goes in a toddler bed this weekend. My wife is freaking out.

Throw the crib mattress on the floor for a few weeks while you shop for a toddler bed. If it's on the floor, he won't have far to fall.

Time for a low twin bed.

Never let them use you as the pacifier to fall asleep. It's a trap you don't want to build and you'll never have adult time.

Keep putting them back in their big kid bed. They shouldn't cry if you trained them to sleep all night in their crib and you've already gone through the crying nights when they were younger.

You want to raise independent people that will not be living with you at 32.

convert to bed if possible, make sure all of the exterior doors are secure. Let them climb into bed with you if they want---they are only young once

Definitely time for the toddler bed. The first time my little one climbed out resulted in her first broken bone. Add that to a new bed and the trauma was too much. She totally reverted to wetting the bed (had been completely potty trained before this) and she refused to sleep. We had to give the pacifier back just at night for a few months just so we could get any sleep at all. The doctor said all of that was normal, but jeez it would have been to much easier if we would have switched before she did that.
