Yeah same here. Parents live 5 minutes away and never offer. Sitter gets expensive with 4 daughters.
When your daughters are 17, I can watch them for you.

Always have to ask. So we just get a babysitter.

My mom would watch my kid every day if we let her. We have an open invitation to drop him off any time we need. She can't get enough of him. She knows this will be the last grandkid she will have and is the best grandmother you could ask for.

My wife's parents offer from time to time but our 2 kids are their only grandchildren
My parents have 9, soon to be 10 grandchildren so they don't offer because they're constantly getting bombarded with requests from my sisters
So If my wife's parents can't watch them and we want to go out, we'll get a sitter. We save asking my parents for multi-night stays

When my daughter still lived with me my parents would offer all the time. ID drop her off on a Friday and pick her up on a Sunday after a weekend with friends. She lives in California now. I lost custody about 3 yrs ago.

Definite understatement. We've have to have them to survive as a species. That said, I love my daughter, but she definitely redefined the meaning of the term "hell" while growing up. She's now married and living in another town. Paying for the wedding was one of my smartest investments. My son was a walk in the park compared to her, and he even did a tour in Iraq. Graduates from college next week.

Struck out in the grandparent department on both sides. One of the reasons my wife and I stopped at one.

We live in a different time state, but when we go to visit, we sometimes take them up on a night of them watching him while we go to a movie or something. Just to get out of the house for a while.

My parents and in laws live 5 hours. Tiring sometimes, but definitely makes us depend on each other more.

They'll never say no when we ask, but they'll never volunteer to.

Usually have to ask, but, they are usually up for it.
