if you have any BMW V8 made after 2001 be prepared for the big money water pump seal replacement. Calls for 9 hours of shop labor.
Crazy flaw. Wasn't in the old BMWs I was looking into the olf 4.4 from the e38 and comparing it to the 4.4 from the e39 and it's crazy why BMW would add a rubber seal in a spot where the engine has to be completely torn down to access.
Didn't do full repair, just the "fix" that is supposed to be better than repair. Would look into the fix if you are handy and would rather not plump $8,500 on a repair that will only last 45k miles.
Don't know how many people here have the BMW v-8 or had this issue. I know it affects the 7 series the 6 series and the x5 for sure.

The BMW i8 and v8 are not the same.

I saw one a few weeks ago and it is badass but the Tesla P85D is much better

Lol, I didn't even look into it. Was just remarking on an issue of a PITA feature on the BMW v8.
carry on.

aesthetically the bmw i8 kills the tesla. however, my understanding is the p85d has a legitimate argument for the greatest car ever made.

Was next to one in Austin a couple of months ago - really nice looking vehicle...

An exec at work has one. It's a beautiful looking thing.

Opinion? Very interesting. I guess Audi´s R8´s have piqued BMW´s competitive spirit......

I'm not a big electric car fan

Looks very cool, but the gas tank is tiny and the crazy mileage is not what BMW says it is. It's actually reported to be about 30% of what they claim, so you'll be spending a lot of time at the pump.

I sat in one, it was kind of meh. I would much rather have a r8 v10. Too much TRON car and no soul what so ever.

Seen one in Lafayette earlier in the week. Pretty sexy looking car at night.

If the M division made a handling package for it that included some wider wheels and tires that would complete the car. Based on what I've seen/read the lack of mechanical grip (tire grip) is what lets the car down dynamically.

Yes, there is an i8 here in Lafayette. I've seen it a few times. Great looking car.
Based on the video posted above, why would anyone own a vehicle that is SO FRAGILE? This is why I will NEVER own a BMW. Over-engineered cars that require $1000 + in labor to take apart half the car to get to a $50 part.
No Thank You.
Wake up people. That is NOT status. You are getting owned by your very own vanity. Enjoy
