I would go decent aftermarket and skip the OEM $.

Did the shop tell you why you needed the gasket replaced through their diagnosis?

I unfortunately am not in good place to work on this one on my own right now. I am mainly curious to see if this shop is gouging me. Haven’t had a shop bill this high in a long time.
The book probably calls for 4 or so hours for that job. $500-$600 labor wouldn't be out in left field. So that and the parts get you in the ballpark. For an independent shop it is a little high but it is not insane. That being said while have I done this more than once on transverse mounted engines I don't know that specific engine.
I have got some other ideas how you might be able to half-arse it but won't bother unless you reply that money is tight. You also might be able to call a couple of other shops since you know it is replacing the 6 coils and plugs they might be able to give you a phone estimate.

I trust this shop and have always felt repair costs have been fair.
Tough to find a good mechanic who doesn't gouge customers. Maybe ask him about non-OEM parts or what he can do to shave a bit off of the cost. He'll probably work with you a bit if you've used his shop in the past.

I'm all for fixing things but the manifold gasket would be a deal breaker for me.
Like one of the other posters said price sounds spot on. Trust = peace of mind... Give the man the 1200.00 and move on. While the shop is working on your ride you can scroll the OT, OB or even flex your FB wisdom on the Rant... win, win, win. When you get tired of that do a NSFW in the OT search bar for a DarthRebel Babe thread.... or choose to loose your shite trying to save a few bucks looking for parts and taking skin off your knuckles.

A scanner can pinpoint which coils are suspect. You might get lucky and it be the front side of the engine. They either identified a back coil as the issue (thus having to remove intake and replace the gasket) or they are just replacing them all. Scanners are cheap and good to have anyway.

There's your first problem.

Service engine light started flashing.
Was it not on prior to flashing?

Shop estimate 1200.00 repair needed to replace plugs and coils.
Lol, you only need 4 of each. Coils are $100 each for OEM, and NGK plugs are probably $30-40 each off Rock Auto. The job is super easy. Pull off engine cover, unplug coils, and get a ratchet and extension to pull plugs out and replace them. Just make sure you grease the threads.

Also replacing intake manifold gasket.
Now that's legitimate. Replace the plugs/coils yourself, have the shop do the manifold.

Thanks Rob... I’m sure with inflation this bill might be a tad more than usual but gonna suck it up and move on. Happy New Year

Apparently coils aren’t cheap.
Coil packs are $50 each at the parts store. I got 6 of them for $42 online. They take aboot 4 minutes to change one.

Thanks Obtuse...
Actually, you shouldn't have thanked me. I somehow read the car as an Altima. A Sentra with an I-4 is easier than a transverse V6 which is what I described. Some I-4s are extremely easy to change the plugs, the Nissan 2l is not. It still takes removing the intake manifold and throttle body along with various electrical and vacuum hoses but probably no more than 3 hours book at most. My parts estimate was for 6 cylinders. I think part shouldn't be more than $500 much less online and labor shouldn't run more than $400.
That said if you are comfortable with the shop that may be worth it.

Coils are maybe 15 each and include the wire if you can’t do this you should not be having kids parenting driving a car. It’s literally un plug and re plug the new one in. Park plug is the same. Less than a 100.00 easy and 30 min work
You can do this very simple

You left out the part about removing the intake manifold, throttle body, various hoses and wires to access the coil packs on his Sentra

Anytime the CEL flashes it means a cylinder misfire. Replacing coils and plugs is cheap and easy. Intake manifold gasket isn't hard either, but that all depends on your abilities and if it's worth your time to burn a Saturday fixing it.

watch the video i posted above, to get some of the coil packs off the manifold is in the way so it has to come off to do it

I wouldn't think they'd be over $200 for the coils
A 4 coil pack is over $200. Higher quality parts would be closer to $400 easily
