OT Mechanic help - battery / alternator

My car was completely dead. I had nothing with a key turn.
Got someone to come to my house and get a jump. At first try , turning the key got the normal reaction. Lights in the car as well as the chiming and gauge activity. Attempted to crank and very weak activity. Went back after a few more minutes. All cables still connected and back to absolute zero power.
Possible that the entire battery is dead but would the alternator be compromised too? I know very little about cars. Thanks

Remove your battery & take it to auto zone. They will test it for free

Alternator has nothing to do with cranking. How old is the battery?

Was it giving you problems the last time you drove it?
If the alternator was going bad, the battery would have been acting sluggish earlier.
What type of battery is it?
AGM?
Lead? If so, it may be low on distilled water.
Lithium?

relatively new cars do some damn strange shite when the battery is dead...I would say 90% chance that a bad battery is your problem. Based on what you have said, I herd nothing to lead me to believe that alternator is an issue.

Very likely it’s the battery. I always use the windshield wipers as a quick gauge, you’ll see them moved very slowly if the battery.
Hook up the jumper cables properly, and let it sit for a couple minutes. When trying to start the dead vehicle, make sure you hold the revs of the running vehicle around 1500 rpm or so. This increases the voltage and should supply sufficient voltage/amps to start the dead vehicle.

Not necessarily true... Mine was acting fine one start, then got a battery light my next start... Changed the brushes on my alternator and fixed the issue, but never had any performance issues.

Was simply a dead battery. It was new so when I had not even trace power when hooked up enough for gauges that something else was wrong. Battery replacement was all it needed. Thanks for those who replied.

Replace the battery if omit is old. Check the terminal connections for corrosion

glad to hear that...I learned never to assume that a battery is good...I have had them go bad within an hour of installation.
