About a month ago, I bumped into a lady in my work truck in a parking lot. It did at most 100 bucks damage. It just cracked a trim piece. We didn’t exchange any information, no insurance, dL, or police report. I just gave her my boss card. She made it adamant that she didn’t want something so small on her insurance so, I told her I would buy the parts and fix it myself. Well, two days later she shows up at my office with an estimate for 1,100 bucks. My boss told her no and wanted to get an estimate at another place. This went on for a couple weeks until she threatened a lawyer and my company just cut her a check for 1100 bucks. My boss told me all was good and that it was taken care of. When I get my check, I see that they’re taking out 200 bucks a check to cover for the damages. Nobody told me anything about this. Are they able to do this? I mean I was cool buying the trim piece and fixing it, but I’ll be damned if I did 1100 dollars damage. I got a pic of the accident btw. Just looking for some advice. I feel like they got me by the balls on this one.

But you did. That was the amount of damage done and it was your fault.

That is some damn BS on the part of your boss and you are well within your rights to ask him about it.

But you may also find yourself getting Zero dollars per check when he fires you. LA is an At Will work state and they can just up and can your arse if they feel it is justified.

No question about the fact that you got screwed but you don't have a whole bunch of options.

Yeah can't imagine they can basically settle with the chick on a certain amount and turn around and dock you to cover that amount.

Does the company have insurance or self insured?

You admitted you hit her, so you admit it was your fault

She got an estimate for $1,100

If you hit a parked car on private property you should let your insurance just pay her and you pay the property damage deductible which shouldn't be much at all...much less than $1100...

I navigated my entire divorce using OT advice. Saved my x-wife a ton of child-payment money.

Did you PIIHB, post her pics online, or go talk to every family law attorney in town? Since that seems to be the OT’s general advice.

there is zero deductible with liability.

he'll be paying more than $1000 in surcharges on his insurance next several years.
