A friend is considering leaving his position with the organization he works for. For several years, at the staff Christmas party, the executive director of the organization encouraged/allowed someone (usually a female) to read a very naughty version of The Night Before Christmas out loud to the group. My friend is thinking of making this information public to the board and others in the organization. Can he be sued for slander and/or defamation of character?

What are the damages?

Also, if it's true, then how is it slander?

I'm not a lawyer, but I do know that truth is an absolute defense to slander/libel.

You can't sue someone because they told the truth about something you actually did.

If it's a true statement or occurrence how could it be slander or D of C?

Still pretty petty in my opinion to bring up. Sounds like an HR issue, if anything.

So the executive director fired you and you are looking for revenge on the way out?

Assuming there are no children present at the staff Christmas party your friend needs to stop being a loser.

It reminds me of the religious guy at the office that gets offended by causal curse words.

If its true, then its not slander.

But geez, your friend sounds like a whiny bitch to go complain to the board about something like that.

Tell your friend he is a bitch.

The frick is wrong with him?

If you agree with his idea, the frick is wrong with you?

Apparently he and the ED have had some fairly large "disagreements" over the years and he wants others in the organization to know this person's real character. He hasn't said anything about it to this point for fear it would cost him his job.
