Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think that was a production car that you could just pick up from the dealership

If you're going to produce a vehicle that runs 9's then at least make it practical for its application.
Dodge was actually first to market (of the current gen muscle cars) with that already. Think back in 2008 or 2009 they released the Challenger drag pak, then Ford and Chevy followed with the Cobrajet and COPO.

They've probably spent more than that in the last 20 years playing with the damn things.

You have to be accepted from a list. But it was a manufacturer created drag car much like the old AFX cammer cars ford put out in the day.

correct.
That Demon will not be allowed on any track sanctioned or not.
It's fricking stupid.
And to run 9's it will need to have at least 13" tires which i'm almost positive you won't be able to fit in those factory wheel wells.

Car is a gimmick at best, a halo car in a sense.

Now it’s 2015 and the Stockers competing in NHRA as just as cool as ever and the competition is more diverse and fierce at this year’s US Nationals. What’s fueled this resurgence is Ford, Chevrolet and Mopar’s foray into offering turnkey racecars for not only Stock, but also the Super Stock categories. Ford Racing threw down the gauntlet and debuted the Cobra Jet Mustang in 2008, followed by Mopar’s Challenger Drag Pak and COPO Camaro Chevrolet Performance the following years.

Manufacturer created isn't the same as a production line car like this dodge thing is. Is the copo even street legal?

Okay, fact still remains that Dodge already offers a legitimate race car from the factory.
And FYI, the Demon comes with everything needed to run the 9.65 1/4. Comes with radials on the rears and the skinnies come in a "Demon crate" with other extras. The only thing that sucks is that since it doesn't have a factory cage, it can make one pass and would then be kicked off the track. Another note, the Demon ran a 9.9X with the larger street legal tires up front, think they are 315s.
Had Ford released this car you'd be losing your shite over it. Don't let brand bias ruin something that is actually cool. Is it practical? No. But it's cool...not sure how people can deny that. Plus, is any race car/super car practical anyway??

My, my. What will the preacher say when I roll up in the devil's car on Sunday morn?

It'll be a cold day in hell before I spend $105k on a Dodge.
I don't care if hits 9.5 in the quarter while it jerks me off and makes me coffee.
Not that I would, because I'd get a nice SUV like a fully loaded G-Wagon before anything, but you can get a used, convertible, Ferrari with only 15,000 miles on it for $105k.

So reading more this car is going to be priced around 85k with dealer markups approaching 90-95k.
This car has no segment besides extreme gear heads with free flowing capital.
You drive off the lot and its worth 60k immediately. So you pretty much have to absolutely love this car and the maintenance costs that come with it.
This car is the fastest car in a straight line production wise but without a roll cage you'll drive exactly one time on a track.
The same price I can buy the new Lexus LC 500 and have the same amount of fun on a track. Not a dragstrip.
But hey if you baws wanna blow six figs on a Dodge eat your heart out.

Yea, so not even in the same discussion. One is a pure bred race car while the other is a production car with some race features. The demon is the first one in that category that I'm aware of.
It's a niche car that's worthless on the track and probably completely miserable on the street, but it'll have a warranty and an inspection sticker and nothing will beat it from red light to ref light.
If they were smart, they'd offer that driveline in a stripped out bottom of the barrel challenger with zero options (take off the trans brake and everything) so the $40k millionaires could afford it. All they care about is hp anyway, and being able to run 11's would be fine with them.

You can't just sweep that under the rug.

I just can't see any full bodied car over 3000# with drag radials running mid 9's but i haven't kept up with drag racing very much lately.

Exactly. Especially one that can't do a lap around an actual race track.

Those who compared the Demon to the GT-R shouldn't be doing that.
Here's why:
The GT-R is not and never was intended to be used on a drag strip. These are two different cars used for two different purposes. The first time the Demon has to make a turn it's rolling over and over and over.
This isn't a production street car either. You can't just fill it up with gas at the local gas station and hit those numbers either. Also being limited to just 3,000 being made means that anything you need to replace on that car will be very expensive as well as the labor.
It's a niche car just like the COPO Camero was. The numbers are impressive but at the end of the day it's a drag car produced by Dodge. GT-R isn't a drag car. The sticker on it maybe only 80K plus but will run much higher than that just as a race car would.
For the record I would pay $150k for a GT-R Nismo over buying the Demon.
