My 2 year old has an ear infection and was prescribed Amoxicillin. Thing is: Like most list kids she HATES taking medicine.

I've tried everything to coax her to take her medicine but nothing works. She throws a fit and acts scared to death to drink a mere 5 ml of medicine. She probably associates the medicine with the doctor's office visit, which happened to coincide with a wonderful experience with a Flu shot. Thanks, Doc, for the perfect timing.

Anyhow, this morning a thought hit me. My two year old likes to do everything my 5 year old does. I mean everything. What if I put milk into the medicine cap and asked my 5 year old to drink it while sitting next to my 2 year old. After drinking it, perhaps I could get my 5 year old to smile and say something like, "Mmmmm, MMMMMMM, GOOD! Yummy!"

That's exactly what I did. I took my 5 year old into another room while my 2 year old was eating breakfast. I told her what I wanted her to do and why. She smiled and said, "Okay, Daddy! I'll do it!"

She sat down next to my 2 year old. I gave her the "medicine" and asked her to drink it so that she feels better. She downed the milk and looked at my 2 year old and said, "mmmmmm, MMMMMMM, GOOD! Yummy!"

I said, "Good job! You already look better! Do you feel good?"

She said, "Yes, Daddy. I feel great."

Then I gave my 2 year old the real medicine and asked her to drink it. She picked up the medicine cap and downed it like a champion and even said, "mmmmm, MMMMMM, Yummy! More?"

I laughed and said, "You get more tonight, hun. Good job! I can already see you getting better!"

I love fatherhood and manipulation as an means to an end.

They only like benadryl right now so I knockem out with that and shoot a syringe full of medicine in their mouth while they are out.

shoot some of the medicine in the mouth with one of those plastic syringes and blow in there face they have no choice but to swallow works like a charm.

Key is to get them to develop a taste for bourbon at an early age while still on a bottle. Makes it easier to get them hammered as kids. Everybody knows it's easier to talk someone into something when they are drunk

Wait. You have a two-year-old and a five-year-old and still have the time to log over 33,000 posts on a message board in a few years? You must be proud.

I'm not going to put her thru that when she only has approximately a year before she grows out of the ear infection phase. Tubes are the biggest sham in the medical field.

She can't tough out another year of occasional ear pain.

If she's that easily manipulated I wouldn't let her anywhere near your team's campus. They'll have her on a hunger strike and flying a black panther flag by noon.

Doesn't work on her. She's already in full blown tantrum mode before I get the syringe to her mouth. I mean, it works if I hold her down, grab her mouth, and squeeze her cheeks to get the syringe into her mouth...but I'm done with that shite.

Manipulation is much easier and FAR less dramatic

Last time I tried to give my kid medicine he fought me so hard that his loose tooth fell out. Between the red medicine and blood, my bathroom looked like a crime scene.

ADHD is more of a sham than tubes. My son had 6 ear infections by 8 months old. We had tubes put in and he has only had 1 minor infection since then and he is 18 months old now.
