I thankfully never needed braces. Doesn't counter my point though. You resist it because you're not comfortable which is fine, but it's been around a long time and isn't going anywhere.

I have a couple of patients that have signed up for the Smile direct club. One of them is a lawyer and has a bite that is so jacked that I would not do clear aligners on him and sent him to the orthodontist. He really needs double jaw surgery to fix his bite because of a very prominent chin. SDC gladly signed him up and I have seen him a couple of time and they are improved, but I think that he will suffer long term with TMJ issues.
The second patient has periodontal disease and really should not be in aligners without getting his perio and hygiene in order first. SDC signed him up as well and good luck to them when his teeth start falling out.
I think that in the right patient SDC can work, but in the wrong patient, without proper diagnosis, it can be dangerous.
Choose wisely.

How much do veneers cost?
I need to strike it rich and just buy new teeth.
ETA:
My teeth are straight-ish. I just want perfect teeth that don't stain from coffee

You are in your mid 30's.
Don't get traditional braces unless you want to look like you are in early high school.
Go to a dentist or orthodontist and get Invisalign.

Man isn't that the truth! I love coffee but hate the stains it causes.

After my experience with Invisalign (EXCELLENT!!!) and how much work my dentist put into making sure my results were perfect (she was amazing. Seriously. If you have a crap dentist your results will be crap), I cannot see how SDC can compare. It takes a lot of work to get it right and there’s no way my results would have been as awesome as they were without my dentist going above and beyond.

I’m a dentist.
Do not do SDC. I’ve seen a patient that did this on her own and developed severe root resorption of her front teeth. Root resorption occurs when too much force is applied too quickly to a tooth and as a result the root basically dissolves. She’s not far from losing them.
Invisalign is a proven product and I have great results with it. Never had a patient unhappy with final results.
Do yourself a favor and pay the extra for a trained professional to help you get the results you want. You won’t regret it.

Veneers run about a $1000 per tooth. Braces about $4500-$5000. I’m having the pleasure of paying for braces for my daughter as we speak.

I did Invisalign. It sucked while the treatment was going on. It hurt, taking the trays in and out were a pain when out to dinner for instance, and just generally was a nuisance. However the results were awesome. Make sure you pick someone that will change your trays every week not every two weeks. Obviously cuts tx time in half. I would pick braces if I had to do it again. But I wear my retainers every night to make sure I don’t have to.

Btw I had 38 freaking Invisalign trays. I wore them for over a year, 1/3 of the time with rubber bands. My shite was jacked up

I have regular braces right now and it is terrible. You sort of get used to it but it really makes eating a chore.

Was in a situation similar to you in my mid-20s. Did Invisalign for about a year and my teeth are so awesome now. They weren’t awful before, but i have much more self-confidence now and i love my smile. I love Invisalign and the results.

I currently have the old school braces. I actually needed them to fix something a dentist did in the past. I'd like to kick that dentist's teeth in, but I digress.
I weighed the options of invisalign vs traditional, but decided on traditional. For anyone that has regular braces....get a water pik and an electric toothbrush. It makes cleaning after eating a breeze.

Gonna have to shell out for Invisalign after I get my kid out of braces next year. Had traditional braces as a teenager, but apparently the ortho only straightened my teeth and didn't fix my bite way back when. Another $5k.

Invisalign is the only answer! SDC strictly focuses on anterior teeth with no attachments, along with 15 year old technology..

I had invisalign for close to a year, maybe 10 months at most. My problem area was mainly my lower teeth had overcrowding but a few of my upper teeth were also a little out of place. The main thing was that I hated having to take the trays out to eat and drink, but I will say it did help cut back on my snacking especially while I was at work. The pain is horrible in the beginning when you're switching from one tray to the next one, but it gets better the longer you have it in your mouth. I definitely saw a difference after a few trays and knew once I got a certain tray number that my teeth were pretty straight in my main area of concern for me. I can't say that I remember much about the treatment because whatever it was, couldn't have been that bad because I love the results I have. It was expensive at $5,600 for about 30 something trays, but I wouldn't trade the results for anything. I had several appointments throughout the process with my orthodontist and I highly recommend their office since they were so friendly and always available. I have more confidence when smiling and am not as self conscious when meeting and speaking with new people so all in all I would recommend invisalign.
I am not so sure about SDC, but one of my technicians had it and it was working for her, but she also previously had braces and only used SDC as she forgot to wear her retainer or lost it.
