sub panel and a tesla charger installation for 2200 cash

OP bought a $100,000 car and is now complaining about $2,200 to put in the charger. Someone didn’t realize the charger wasn’t a plug and play thing.

No T-Negre. I’ve sold stuff since I was 10. Operated a formal licensed business for the last 28 years.

People ask me if I will work for them. Most of my customers don’t ask for a price.

My reputation precedes me.

You sound like a prick that I wouldn’t work for. No matter what you paid me.

You wouldn’t know the difference and you’d get started.

I have no idea what you do. What I do know is roofers and painters are billing hours like lawyers. When that pendulum swings (and it will), the reset will be enjoyable to put it lightly.

Lawyers can’t do what roofers and painters do. Lawyers are a dime a dozen. Many would love to bill my hourly rate.

Edit. : Nothing against good lawyer’s. One of the most wealthy lawyers in Louisiana gave me a five year paid ride to college. He has educated me on the lawyer business. Most suck.

Skimming off the top. That would be the proper term. At least use the proper word for what you’re trying to say.

Do you feel that businesses should not make money and should just do work and provide materials from the goodness in their hearts?

Why, when he can get on the internet and bitch instead. If you're too lazy or otherwise disinclined to do it yourself, you pay market rates...

It's not skimming, it's straight profit. I do small-mid size commercial jobs, pretty much all public bid work. Everyone is doing 30%+ profit/OH right now. I put in a bid for a $500k school remodel earlier this year and was told by a large school district in Birmingham that this was their first time they had more than one bidder on a job this size in two years. Not enough people out there to do the work. You can go look at bidders list for a $10 million job and there will be 8-10 names on it (the mega companies everyone knows), yet the small $100k-$1mil jobs that used to be done by father-son small businesses are getting zero-2 bidders.

Tell ya what... Why don't YOU do the take-off, purchase and deliver the materials, perform the work yourself, then sit down and tally up everything with pen, paper, and calculator, then you tell US how much you think we've skimmed off the top.

for about 120' of wooden fence, i did just this. then paid three fine young gentlemen $20/hr to complete the task. I purchased and trailered the materials to my home. then paid them when they left.

Or have you never run your own business before?

this is where most people have no idea. i do not run a construction company, but i know the "behind the scenes" numbers of owning a company.

most people see a job get completed in half of a day, and think why am I paying $4500.00 for this? When in reality, it is a combination of owning the right tools, the years of experience it takes to build something efficiently, and running a company legally.

in other words, pay a professional to do his job.

Why does the price of materials fit into the labor cost? Let’s say I need 2 diamond encrusted birdbaths mounted. Why should I pay you more because the fancy bird baths had diamonds?

Of course it’s a ridiculous example, but I’m curious.

Repair service guys are the worst, expecting to be paid 139 $/hr , and show up with a complete lack of skills or knowledge. I will train folks at 20-30 bucks an hour, but skilled rates should be backed by fast efficient work
