Kinda the plan once I’m ready to retire. We’ve already started building our property portfolio so we can bounce around and have the ability to be fluid as far as where we want to spend time.

Looking forward to the day!

Which one of those do you live in tough guy? Why not move to Africa for even cheaper?

I prefer to live in the greatest country in the world and have crawfish boils with my family while streaming LSU baseball.

Enjoy winters in Poland douche.

Africa is actually expensive comparatively.

I'm out of BTR and chasing money on the coast, don't have enough to set it and forget it yet.

It's a real OT Baller to buy a place in a developed country.

That developed area that floods every few years? I guess no worries because they have a yeti cooler to keep their meat frozen for the first 4 days.

For sure. Most here will never believe this, however.

For years my wife and I had plans to sell everything and semi-retire to Belize as soon as the youngest was a semester or two into college. We'd keep an rv in the states for me to come home and hit a few short term welding inspector gigs but spend most of the year down there. But roughly two years from B-day it looks like she's backing out.

I had looked at a couple places in the keys, but got sick and had to blow off living down there or any other place. Medical care is a must for me. One is not going to get that care in third world countries. And yes, the keys are about third world country.

It’s called having a family. You know, kids, parents? Sorry you’re so lonely.
Obviously this thread wasn't directed at you as you are not an OT baller. True OT Ballers take their fam with them. Sorry you so poor.

I've heard this too, but have a counter to that. If US health care is so far and away a must have staple, then why is the US life expectancy for someone who reaches 60 years of age much lower or in line with 3rd world countries?

quote:

Life expectancy at 60 is the average number of years that a person at that age can be expected to live, assuming that age-specific mortality levels remain constant. The list below shows Life expectancy at 60 for 195 countries

https://www.helpage.org/global-agewatch/population-ageing-data/life-expectancy-at-60/

a 60 year old in Panama or Ecuador is expected to live as long as a 60 year old in the US.

We do this as often as we can. One of us is retired and the other works 3 days a week. We have dogs so can't get away as much as we want to. Trying to get kids situated and having elderly parents stops us too. Just got one kid off payroll and we encouraged him to move out of LA. We love to visit other places and just live the life there.

Some places, like Italy, don't allow non-citizens to purchase a permanent residence or live there longer than a certain period of time (usually a number of months) without meeting certain guidelines.

In other words, you can't just retire and move to Italy just because you feel like it.

I kinda meant like being a snowbird, go to one place for a bit until the weather in another place is better and then move there. Spend a quarter to half year in each, jumping between expat communities of like minded GTFOers

Well for starters, I don’t live in Baton Rouge (best decision I ever made). I live in Austin which is rated and is one of the best cities in the country.

I may work 35 hours a week and prob only half of that is real, actual work.

My commute is 10-15 minutes max

I enjoy some of the greatest lakes, hunting, and golf courses I’ve ever been a part of. (Sportsman’s paradise my arse) so I feel like I’m always on vacation. In fact, I’m upset when I have to actually take a vacation to appease family.

Dude, go to an ER in the US and look around..obesity is a major issue, not so much in Ecuador. No matter how bad you take care of yourself in the US with the advancements in blood thinners and cardiac care most people can live to 80, it’s just very expensive to the taxpayer.

What about unprocessed, organic fruits and vegetables. Grass fee meat, non-gmo, blah, blah ,blah that you have to pay top dallar here for being the standard there? Better diet helps people live longer in those areas.

I’m with ya but at the end of the day genetics trumps all else. Hard to live long being obese though.
