Yep.
I've never noticed any extra noise in any one I've been in for the last 10 years...

not really sure.
I just don't understand your dismissiveness on some of the genesis lineups on sedans. They are nice as hell and built to last.

Yeah, when I first started looking like 2 years ago the Avalon was the top pick. Mechanics hated it but seemed VERY reliable. 500 miles non stop on a tank of gas was very cool for highway use.
Old Avalons (not hybrid) were about 2 feet longer and lots of trunk space. Last Avalons (hybrid) were shorter but very cost effective compared to BWW and Lexus.

Wow, 100K?
What did they used to cost?

Is that the lowest cost one now?
I was thinking they were less than that, but maybe not...

Her's was a 08 XLS and that trunk did have a lot of space. We could get 28-29 on the highway.

Couple of notes:
1. The present Crown is an all-new design. It bears no relation at all to the Crown sedan lineup built in Japan since '57. It doesn't make any sense to postulate that the lineage of a completely unrelated chassis, body and powertrain will carry over in reliability. Having said that, it is a Toyota.
2. Modern AWD makes no difference whatsoever in NVH, unless for performance perception reasons the automaker wants it to. In this car, they more than likely don't want it to. OP is correct in noting that tire choice has a lot to do with it. Tire choice will dominate many aspects of NVH and handling for any car.
3. WRT to Tesla being invasive, while I am a privacy advocate, I also recognize that EVERY car sold now is invasive. Your Toyota will come with an app, whether you want it to or not. So will every other marque on the planet, and they are all increasingly moving to subscription models for various options and upgrades. Disregarding Tesla over privacy concerns is like using Google Chrome instead of Safari over the same. Safari/Apple at least makes some efforts at protecting your data, and Elon has shown he can be combative about that as well. If the gummit or a member of Toyota's Keiretsu decides they want your data for whatever reason, the response from Toyota will be Hai! (yes).

Never heard of them, are these the same models they use for Taxis in Tokyo? Those cars were CLEAN! I almost thought about importing one here.

You like Taycan's, and you're worried about Tesla depreciation? You're a Porsche homer. Here's an article on Taycan's losing $100k value in 4 years. LINK
Tesla's have gone down as Tesla dropped the sticker price on their cars. As by far the most profitable company in the segment, they can afford a price war, others have been forced to follow suit, but can't sustain it for long because no one has Tesla's per-car margins.

Same name, completely different car. Crown's were more typically used as livery cars - drivers for foreign execs and Japanese VIPs. They were a lot like Japan's Lincoln Town Car. I never paid much attention to cabs over there, they might have been used for that too.

Get a used ES350. Checks all of the boxes and the base package has all the options you need. If you look around you can find one that is in perfect condition and it will cost the same as a similar Avalon. I target 30k to 40k miles.
I’m in my second. First went to 240k miles with no problems. Current one is a 2016 with 120k miles and drives like it’s brand new.
Best Sedan on the market.
ETA: I get 26-29 mpg and it doesn’t need premium.

So much like Buick?
Great sedans from WW II, then all SUVS a few years ago
Crown
Great sedans for generations, then ALL brand new with THIS Crown
Good to know! Big part of putting it on my radar which the Avalon discontinued was legacy. If this does not exist, that greatly changes the equation.

Yeah but you need to plan on unloading it before the man. Warranty expires.

Quiet and comfortable sedan. Why I got excited when I heard they were coming to the US!

Dealer is a big issue.
Did you get yours in ATL? Extended warranty from a good dealer is good way to go according to DoI folks who track this stuff.

BMW's have had issues in the past, but the previous gen 5 Series was rock-solid.
I personally like German cars, but I don't always recommend them. I try to figure what the individual's goals are and then give them an objective opinion.
Unless they have big boobs, then I just agree with whatever they say.

go buy a genesis if you want luxury ride
Most models in the Genesis line have low marks on reliability. Too many problems with Noise, leaks, in car electronics.
Adding, some of the models lose around 50% of their value in 5 years.

OP, to summarize:
Given your requirements, you're on the right track.
The Crown is probably the closest thing you can buy to what was once a Buick or a Lincoln now. The 21" wheels may result in a ride not entirely to your liking. Go drive one to find out.
The Tesla Y will also fit your requirements, was the best selling vehicle on the planet last year, but can be an acquired taste in some respects. One hidden advantage for you over the Crown is that you can get the Y 19" wheels (more tire sidewall = more cushy ride) so long as you don't order the Performance version. Model S might even be a better fit for what you want, but out of your price range?
To the point made by others, Genesis has gotten pretty good, but Hyundai's long term reliability record remains shaky, and there are not enough high mile Genesis's out there to establish one yet.
Now, at your age, are you REALLY worried about that car holding up for 10+ years? It's a reality I have had to confront myself as of late. Buy something you'll enjoy in the time you have left, let your kids figger it out on their own!
