In delayed fast national results just released by Nielsen, the 93rd Academy Awards were watched by a mere 9.85 million, with a dismal rating of 1.9 among the 18-49 demographic.

That is an all-time low for Hollywood’s biggest night – by a huge margin.

In fact, it is a drop of over 58% in terms of audience from what the previous low of the 2020 Oscars snared on February 9 last year. In terms of the key demo, the 2021 Oscars is down a crushing 64.2% in the earlier ratings from the 2020 Oscars.

It's more concerning that almost 10 million still watch that garbage.

My only regret is that the ratings were as high as they were.

Guessing a lot of people didn't watch many, if any, of the nominated stuff so there wasn't much vested interest in it this year.

I’m a movie guy. I watched a new movie everyday for a 5 year span at one point.

I didn’t realize the Oscars were last night lol

Shitty movie year, covid kept everything closed, and the oscars got more woke than usual.

Also maybe it's because Parasite won last year and no one wants to be reminded of how bad of a classist society we deal with on a daily basis.

Seriously, that movie is about as overrated as Crash was last decade.

Wow. But whatever. I haven’t paid to see a movie in a theater since 1987. Plus the last time I was even in a movie theater it was 2000 and those tickets were a gift.

I agree with the rest of your point but to be fair the movie was beautifully shot and well directed and probably did deserve best director + best International

They think the answer to this is to double down on the wokeness, ramp up political speeches, and nominate more movies about Gays/trannies/feminists.

Someone should clue Hollywood in to the fact that they are in a business that sells to the public. Is they want folks to consume their product, put a good product put there. Not about some dude loving a fish or w/e that shite was a couple of years back.

Seriously. I am not going to pretend that, in this case, the constant virtual signaling caused me to quit watching like a lot of other award shows. I got tired of seeing awards handed to people/films that I never heard of and had no interest in ever watching. Plus all of these award shows are full of a bunch of strange people that are not at least entertaining.
