I didn’t finish at McNeese. I finished at a smaller school in the area

Things change that fast, I guess. Now that I have kids (one entering high school) I try my best to understand the situation without being too overbearing. She’s never given me a reason (yet) to be that way.

But there are things that she worries about and my reaction is “well, that’s stupid.” or “that’s ridiculous.” That works for me but I know it doesn’t work for her. And that’s where I know I struggle a bit with how to handle some things.

Actually, I don’t recall the last time I took a day off besides a holiday. I believe in hard work.

That sucks for you. I mean that. I work hard myself, but I firmly believe there is much more to life that just working. You’re missing out on a lot.

I'm all for it. I wish employers provided this as well, or at least, lumped it into sick or personal time.

You’ve probably forgotten what it’s like to be a teenager in high school. Everyone changes. Everyone matures. What you believe now is more than likely not what you felt back then.

High school is not difficult. If you thought high school was so hard that you needed “mental health” days then I honestly feel sorry for you.

When I think back and cringe at how stupid I was when I was in my early 20s, I just remember one thing. In 5-10 more years, I'll be just as embarrassed by my dumb takes in my early 30s.

High school is not difficult for you NOW? Of course it wouldn’t be for you now. You’re an adult. You understand how to navigate through it.

I don’t know anything about you or your history in HS, if you were popular, successful in sports, tons of friends.

Believe it or not, it’s not that easy for a lot of kids. It doesn’t just come naturally for them like it may have come for you. I didn’t have it easy. I fricking hated high school. Once I got out, and there wasn’t so much pressure to fit in, or have the right friends, or say the right things, It was so much easier to navigate my way through life.

Y’all motherfrickers must’ve been stuffed in trash cans everyday if y’all really think high school was so hard on your precious little feels.

not everyone went to public school in Louisiana, with plans to matriculate to a mediocre state school.

High school can be extremely difficult for those at elite schools with Ivy League aspirations. The competition is insane.

You and me both. And that’s WITHOUT the platforms and social media and outlets everyone has now. Holy shite, if I had all of this to help me out

I didn't say this. High school was extremely easy for me.

I'm not going to pretend my experiences are indicative of everyone though. That's not a very smart thing to assume.

I agree. But I’m not sure that’s what we’re talking about here. And in any case, the kids trying to get into the Ivy League aren’t missing days of school for mental health.

Yes they are.

And I say that as someone working at a school that has put multiple kids in those schools since I’ve been there.

You know this from your personal experience as a kid trying to get into an ivy league school?

Good job doubling down on your stupidity.

Not only do you somehow imagine that everyone has the exact same life experiences, but you also imagine that if people don’t, then there is something wrong with them.

You don’t have to have been “stuffed in a trash can” to realize this. You simply have to open your eyes not be an idiot with his head up his arse. Try it. It’s enlightening.

I’m not claiming that it’s a cakewalk for everybody, it wasn’t necessarily a cakewalk for me then either, but to think that I would’ve needed free days off because of something as vague as ‘mental health’ is cringeworthy. I couldn’t imagine being such a weak bitch that high school made me go catatonic and need a day off.

Jesus, toughen the frick up people. There’s difficulties in all aspects of life.
