Rand paul proposed these zones for inner cities, didnt get much support.

You’d think that with the rise and popularity of remote working and the technology that we have that more and more companies are going to be flexible with where employees live and not have to be in a certain city which gives you more freedom to live wherever you want, which would give more smaller towns in rural areas a great chance for people to call home.

I'll give you an example, my business was responsible for staffing the construction project of a new power plant in a small town in Oklahoma. Only about a quarter of the project was staffed by locals. I had to recruit baws from Arizona, Alabama, Texas, and Louisiana to find enough people that could operate cranes, heavy equipment, and install all of the systems being put into place.

I grew up in the final decent era of small town American life. It was fricking terrible. The level of wholesale ignorance and shallow thought is repugnant. Everyone knows your business, people are far more judgmental, and there are few service industry and entertainment options.
Not to mention, this remote working thing isn’t going to be a full time permanent thing for everyone. The vast majority of people are going to have to make on site appearances for collaboration quite often. Hybrid remote/office labor forces are the wave of the future.

Small towns will not see growth unless they are within a 45 minute or so commute to a large city, a nice lake/river/beach or a good airport.
