While I definitely agree, (and please dont take this as me being unsympathetic to your situation) there is also personal responsibility in that the heads of some of these companies knowingly pushed these drugs to be overprescribed and overproduced - some of the stats out there regarding their being more prescriptions than people in a given state in some years are insane.

The gov completely dropped the ball as well, but there were misleading and fraudulent practices by the drug companies and they need to pay to help clean up this mess. And they have plenty of money off the profits they made over the last 20 years, the exec's are just trying to hide it and protect as much as they can.

Man I feel really bad for you. Truly. It's a shame how this country has lost it's way relative to accountability. Opioids, guns, etc. Let's blame everyone else but the ones responsible.

I think what you are describing is a good argument for a strong public option in healthcare (along with private insurance) - with the govt having the negotiating strength, authority and cost incentive to allow other manufacturers to produce generic drugs of the same formula in these kinds of instances where a company cannot or will not produce them for whatever reason

The govt is steady fricking up US drug policy from prescription drugs, to scheduling, to the whole “war on drugs, and you want to give them more power to regulate and administer drugs?? No thank you! I will keep dealing with my stuff and hope that there is an alternative . frick govt regulation on drugs. I’m my view everything should be legal and if it fricks us your life or ends it then so be it. Govt has no damn business telling any citizen what they can put in their body!!

You idiot, government interference is why drug makers are getting out in the first place and LSU2001 is in the boat he's in.

I don't want to hear this. I'm about to start radiation treatment and have been told my prognosis is good, BUT there may be some side effects from the treatments - which sound very unpleasant.

I'm not comparing my situation to your illness. I read your thread on the OB. I've got to eat a shite finger sandwich or two. You've been served a shite whole loaf po' boy.

I have an 85 y/o uncle who has had more spinal and orthopedic surgeries than I can count. The man is in chronic pain. Sometimes it's so bad he can barely moved. His doctor cut him off of opiods. Now he's coming out of pocket to pay for nerve block injections and trying cannibus oils. It's bullshite.

damn man that's rough. yeah the whole situation is fricky.. the Opioid makers fricked up at the beginning by not being truthful about the addictivness of their pills. So now the gov't is coming after them bc of the H and Fent problem. because they dont know what else to do. which hurts people like you....

What they need to do is decriminalize H use and all drug use in my opinion. If there wasnt such a stigma maybe more people would reach out for help. Rehab costs dont help either. As a former addict I can see both sides. Sorry bout you situation though man

Roach, when I was actively going through the radiation, the doc had me on morphine and it worked pretty well for the acute side effects of the radiation. The fentanyl is usually reserved for chronic, severe, and is not controlled by other less powerful medications. To be honest, the best relief I got was from lidocane and cortisone creams applied to the "radiation burns" But I am not going to lie, radiation was tough and painful but it is doable.

Were you able to drive yourself to appts? I live in Covington, but am being treated at the Yenni Center at EJGH. It's going to be a (bigger) pain in the arse if I have to have someone deliver me every day for 8-1/2 weeks.

Man sorry to hear what you are going through and I’m not really sure what type of cannabis LA offers medically but you can get some very concentrated oils, wax, or even bud that is potent as hell in other states that would probably help you. I’m sure you’ve researched it but that may be your best bet

I'm 100% behind that, I'm just afraid they are the only ones who can maybe get the runaway costs down. We are subsidizing the rest of the world and paying for our drugs and getting worse results by the numbers.

Maybe if it was 100% legal there could be some sort of anti-trus thing in play. I just feel like the system is broken.

I also think decriminalization and safe sites would be huge. The regulations could be cut back to help people like you and treatment could be made more available. I think Portugal has done something like this and seen encouraging results.

Well that coupled with the fraudulent practices of the companies manufacturing. My suggestion was one that would simply allow the govt to approve manufacturing of a necessary drug in the event the company cannot or will not produce it. So it would be a ay to find a solution to this situation.

Also, for an example outside of this situation, if a drug company was cooking the books and went belly-up like healthsouth - I guess their parents would be sold or absorbed in bankruptcy - but that would allow continued manufacturing in the interim.

And I'm not saying the govt makes the drugs, they can just authorize another manufacturer to use that patent in certain situations. So it's more of a de-regulation in my mind, making a drug more available

Absolutely, they were asleep at the wheel on this - or in the pocket of the drug companies more likely

agree with you analysis of the govt screwing over pain management. I have diabetic leg pain and arthritis. no fix other than pain management. the political narrative called the opiod crisis does not fix illegal drug use. in fact it will greatly expand illegal drug use as pain management under doctor direction is no longer possible. today a simple tramadol prescription is limited by dr rules, limited by pharmacy rules, and limited by insurance company rules. the opportunity to satisfy all three is approaching zero. marijuana. thc illegally used, will be a drug of choice for pain mgmt folks that used to work within the system

This stuff sucks, but this is why there should be research into alternative pain management options like cannabis.

Opioids are not meant for chronic pain control. These companies convinced people they were suitable for long term use to boost profits and that is not the case except in extreme circumstances.

Now there are hundreds of thousands addicted and they are cutting back on distribution and prescription.
