The lady that lives across the street from me has a new sticker on the back of her car every few months with the name of her newest business. First it was a clothes company, then a jewelry company and now I think it is a drink deal.

Exactly. That’s why it’s multi level. A very small % of people do well.. but the numbers don’t lie. Most don’t do well, and many even lose money.

I also just have zero tolerance for targeting friends and family. Of course this is the OT so go figure the three people whose wives do it don’t sell to family/friends. But whatever, many still do.

You should see some of the screenshots of these psychos telling people with loved ones dying of cancer to rub some oils on them to cure them. Or telling people looking for legitimate medical advice regarding skincare.. to buy their $300 Rodan + Fields, which many dermatologists do not back.

To be fair, even non MLM direct sales rubs me the wrong way.. all the way down the chain. I need a mattress and have done everything I can to avoid going into a store and dealing with pushy sales people. I’d like to say I respect the hustle, but I just feel very uncomfortable when someone won’t go away.

That Lularoe one is horrible. Clothing is ugly as frick. Thank goodness that one seems to be dying off since I don’t see as many fb posts about it.

Girl in my book club tried to tell me some fricking YL essential oils will cure my infertility. This is after I’ve mentioned I’ve had to have several surgeries so far. She’s like “you know, I too suffered from infertility for 6 months(6 whole months of trying , oh the horror)...until I used these oils”.

Only cause I like the girl(even though she is a little dumb) did I not tell her what I really thought to her face.

I mean, a lot of have to leverage friendships and contacts for business. There are always choices to be made regarding how it should be approached. Difference is that my pitch is along the lines of "your business needs _______, here's what we do" or most often "consider us when you need _____________."

It's not "allow me to text and call you incessantly to purchase things you've never heard of (or perhaps even thought about) that are of very questionable quality. I know we're lifelong friends, but I assume you won't be offended when I lie to your face about how this changed my life and use my children and religion as props for my facebook business."

It’s so incredibly offensive and rude to suggest such a thing over medical science to someone who is going through as horrible a time already. How far removed from reality do you have to be to tell someone who desperately wants a child or who has a dying loved one to buy your oils?

I luckily have never really been approached. One girl from high school sold the It Works and approached all of my friends. They were pretty ticked that someone they barely remember would basically tell them they need to lose weight.

Thinking on it, some of the most successful direct sales people I’ve known are best described as aloof. Some of the most good hearted people I know, but their aloofness is a reason they’ve been so successful at sales. When someone else would read a person’s body language and back off, these people don’t really notice body language and keep going. A lot of people will buy something when backed into a corner, so it results in high sales.

One friend that comes to mind asked us genuinely last night if we were still having a crawfish boil this weekend .. when the friend who cooks it lost his dad yesterday. He absolutely meant no harm and genuinely figured it was still on. Just aloof. Did very well when he was in sales. Super likable dude.

Damn that's a great observation. Have to have no shame, but it's a lot easier when you don't even have the awareness to have the shame in the first place.

I was one of them that stated that. As I said my wife does shampoo, she didn’t harass the family, she went to salons and barber shops, dropped off a business card and was usually in and out in a minute or 2. They’d call her up and tell her they were interested in getting more and that’s how she got rolling. As I said, not everyone has to post a bunch of emojis behind a dumb FB post and harass family and friends. She’s actually got all
the customers she wants and has turned a few down even as of late.

ETA: She’s not rolling in millions of $ or anything, it’s just extra play money and she’s made a few friends in the process. It depends on the business type and the person selling it

this is true, its an inventory based model

My wife’s old roommate does this for R&F and is actually one of the top folks on the top of the pyramid and has over 300 people under her/recruited by her. At first I thought it was a joke.

R&F gives her a Lexus and she takes trips all over the world as a result. Her husband actually quit his job because she does so well. She is always trying to get my wife to join and she makes it look glamorous but it is only because she is at the top.

I have seen her “paycheck” and it is absolutely ridiculous how much she pulls in for not really doing anything except recruiting other people.

Daily checklist from one of the MLMs. Look at the gray section especially. It's really sad that they turn their social media into such a toxic sales oriented approach.

None of it is genuine.

Nobody in my friends circle would ever do it. We would all laugh them into a life of shame if they did.

A few of the school moms that we know do it and I blocked their arse with the quickness on facebook.

One annoying count pimps one of the clothing lines. One of the older hot moms made a post on facebook about how stupid said clothes were and said they looked like something that would be on the racks at K-mart in the close-out section. Started a big war among some of the women. It was good entertainment as my wife shared the post and we laughed at some of those people.

This is no worse than the insurance and financial services folks. Cousin married a gal that opened a State Farm agency and she’s bugged the hell out of me.
