It's been a couple of years (at least) since I last saw someone open carrying. Saw a college frat star type at the grocery store picking up a 12 pack of beer yesterday carrying an unholstered pistol in the waistband of his shorts. Today at the car wash I saw a black female carrying a holstered pistol on her hip. He looked like a try hard and the lady struck me as someone who may have some training.

Just coincidence or related to COVID-19? If covid related, what am I missing that is causing people to feel the need to open carry? I can understand this in the beginning of the situation, but now that things have somewhat settled? It doesn't really bother me one way or the other, just an observation.

Or, better yet, shut the frick up and mind your own business. It's possible the woman was raped and this helps her feel more comfortable.

For the people downvoting me to hell, the woman who sold our house in NH was raped, and was extremely pro-open carry because of it. It really hit home hard for me after that.

I don’t think in your waist band is open carry, think that could be considered concealed.

I have never seen anyone open carry outside of cops and outdoorsmen. It's a bad idea. CC is superior.

If any part of the weapon is exposed and visible, it is not concealed (under the law).

I use to conceal carry everywhere I went until one day I tragically lost all my firearms in an unfortunate fishing accident.

Dude who owned Frickin Chicken on Burbank back in the day would sling chicken with his gun holstered up and hanging out the drive thru window. Pretty sure he was ex-military.

None of this happened.

Our old lawn guy was scared of snakes and rode his mower while holstered up

I often wondered if he would actually shoot a snake in a residential neighborhood

a .22 pistol with rat shot for snakes isn’t very loud. you might be able to hear it 4 houses down.

School me on this. It seems like the benefit of open carry would be as a deterrent but that the benefit of CC would be that you aren't the first target of the bad guy, i.e., open carry might be a detriment in a situation where the bad guy isn't going to be deterred? Is that basically it?

Saw a woman at the Flying J on Canal Road in Gulport with a single-action revolver on each hip a few years ago.

open carry could also make you a higher priority target in an active shooter situation.

I don’t know why anyone would open carry unless they’re a rancher in Montana or something

Negative. There is a LA supreme court decision that covers this. A guy was arrested long ago in NOLA after someone reported him to the police for having a concealed handgun. The person who reported it saw part of the grip sticking out of his back pocket.

The supreme court ruled that if any part of the handgun was visible then it was not concealed.
