Just booked a trip to Universal Orlando for 4 days, 5 nights. Six people staying at one of their cheapest places. All in just over $5K
Damn. It really does pay to stay on the campuses.
Last time we went to Disney, we also went to Universal for 2 days, but still stayed at Disney for those 2 days.
Those 2 days at Universal without staying on campus while also staying at Disney were expensive as frick.
Don't be like me. Don't do that

but their capex spending lately seems more tilted to adults rather than children. Guardians, Tron, the Star Wars stuff, villains land coming up. Even the front of Epcot redo feels more like a convention center vibe than a kid-friendly area.
Epcot has always been geared more towards adults.
I never thought about the villains from an adult POV until I went to the new villans show next to rock n roller coaster. But after that I saw what you said.

Meh, we spent 2 weeks there summer of ‘23 … it’s wasn’t that terrible. It wasn’t cheap but it’s doable.
Also we didn’t spend two weeks in the park. We were there for dance nationals.. So for a week of it my youngest was in classes and competition.. My oldest and I played golf for a week.
It can definitely be done for a reasonable amount.. You just gotta know to do it

Ok, that’s good. I haven’t heard the classic names in so long. Usually when Disney comes up it’s bc of its awful modern movies.

Interesting. You’d think there would be one in south America.

Dude last time we went we made "friends" with a family from Ireland that was there for a month. And we were not at one of the budget resorts.
And the husband was just an engineer.
I don't know how.

I booked 2 rooms at universal (for the fast pass) for 1 night. one day was universal / overnight / next day was epic universe... total was $5200
Posted on 3/10/26 at 3:26 pm to 3D
Then at Disney, 2br room was $2400 a night. For those saying it doesnt cost that much, look it up... $7k at Disney is a bargin. 3br Grand Villa is just under $5k a night

no vacations to Disney World for the middle class. That is unless you saved for years
Yea this is pure bullshite. Let me rephrase it, no trips to Disneyworkd with all the bells and whistles and extras at the peak times.
Disney can be affordable but you will have to plan and live within your means(i know, foreign concept)

My wife and I have brought our kids to Disney and Universal on both coasts multiple times. We both went there as kids and loved it and we enjoy experiencing that joy with our kids as parents.
I'm obsessed with credit card points so our flights are always on points and with Universal our hotel is one of their premier resorts on points. That gives us 2 days of unlimited express pass for a 1 night stay. For Disney we have a family friend that owns DVC and she rents us her points very cheap. The last time we went in 2022 we stayed at Copper Creek and paid $160/night. That's really what helps us keep the costs down. Even if you don't know someone who owns DVC you can still rent points and it'll be much cheaper to stay in a deluxe resort if that's what you want. Also throughout the year I get discounted Disney gift cards. With a little work you can pretty easily get 10-15% off. We then use those for our tickets and food.

There is an upside to not being wealthy then?

Pretty sure those characters are long irrelevant. Disney isn’t what it once was.
I’m telling you as someone who brought their 4 year old to Disney last month, they aren’t irrelevant. Her favorite thing about her trip was meeting those 4 characters.

Edit - yeah I get the demographic on this board doesn’t find Disney interesting. No shite. It’s not about what you like. If you have kids, vacations are for them until they are old enough to enjoy things you want to do. It’s irrelevant what you prefer or think of Disney.
I agree wholeheartedly with this sentiment yet the number of kids NOT having a good time, as evidenced by the tantrums and crying that goes on at the happiest place on earth is not insignificant. A lot of that has to do with parents trying way to hard to buy memories when the kid only wants some attention from the most important people in their lives which can be done at the house if the parents would take the time to do it. I went to Disney in the 70s as a kid and have taken our kids and our niece's daughter a couple of times each and all of the preferred Universal and even ratty old 6 Flags Over Georgia to Disney. They all much prefer going camping and just sitting around playing cards and staring at a fire and laughing and eating. What they all really enjoyed most was 20 minutes of undivided attention when they were the center of their parents universe. Parents misread the "wants" of their kids by not paying attention to their kids.
We took our niece to Disney when she was 8 and had lost both of her parents by the age of 5 to cancer. She is more or less our daughter and we thought we had to make her losing her parents up to her. Her most memorable memory of that trip was our sitting around the pool at Shades of Green (military "resort" on Disney property and watching her swim and she and I sneaking into some of the ponds around Disney and fishing every evening. I don't know if she has ever mentioned going to the parks on that trip but she has mentioned the fishing a BUNCH.
