Well if it helps ease your mind, there is an Indian convenience store owner near my parents house that wears a MAGA hat, and my Asian dry cleaner teared up last week when she told me about how her kids took her to NYC and she got to see the Statue of Liberty over Christmas

I think you answered your own question:

quote:

brown people aren’t American citizens

That's a quote from you, word for word, you racist.

What you're describing is not American-owned, it is white owned. So yes, it is racist.

How do you know who's sending their profit to another country?

It's funny when the Harley riders think they ride motorcycles made in America.

I know most things I purchase aren’t made here. Can’t control that. I can, however, control who I purchase those items from.

So, how do you determine which businesses are American owned?

You should start asking every store owner for documentation before you shop. I would hate for you to buy from some English bloke that is good at hiding his limey accent.

My wallet believes in a meritocracy: best product, best service, best price.

I don't care where the money goes if the combined elements above prove to be non American.

Of course. But read his question. He's not basing it off the owners' citizenship but on the assumption/generalization that foreign born American citizens send their money back to their home country based on what they look and/or sound like. That is the definition of racism.

I tend to shop where the owners/workers are of similar political leaning as me. I try to make America great every day.

Why the frick does it matter where the money ends up? Suppose you buy your tampons from a c-store owned by an Indian, who happens to be a naturalized citizen. Said fellow supports his immediate family, who are also citizens and residents of the US. He also sends some of his money to his parents in India because they are destitute. So frick him for that because 'Merica?

Not necessarily racist, just kind of dumb. Someone from another country who is living and working in America trying to make a better life for themselves and their family is every bit as American as someone who happened to be born here and doing the same thing from my view. And there are lots of awesome "foreign-owned" local businesses that I like to support. Do what you gotta do though.
