Online degrees

My SO did a few semesters at LSU almost 30 years ago. SO is in a field where they are being told that if they had some kind of bachelor degree they would move up quicker where they wanted to be. Company will pay for online degree. Has anyone done this and can comment on who they went through, amount of time involved, etc. Did you retake ACT/SAT after being out of school for a considerable amount of time? Where you able to transfer your credits? Thanks in advance for any genuine responses.

Yes, UofA offers online degree. Just go to frickedMySister.com to see a list of courses.

Go through a state school and not a for-profit university then talk with the advisor about requirements for completing the program. Most likely you will not need an ACT/SAT to take classes a non-traditional student. Also the 30 year old credits are no viable.

If you are able to go to an online program that is offered through a traditional brick and mortar type school then it will likely be viewed better. As for particular admissions and credits questions, you're going to need to ask the specific institution what their policy is. After 30 years, I imagine a lot of that stuff isn't going to transfer, but I really have no idea.
Also, I'l say that this could take quite a while and be a big time commitment outside of work. Probably at most that is really manageable is a couple of classes a semester while working a full time job. 6 hours a semester for a degree that 120 hours. Yeah, that would take a while. Hopefully some of his prior work could still contribute, and maybe there are some other shortcuts to get credits quickly.

Yeah, probably, but if an employer is going to pay for it then it's never too late to better yourself.

30 years ago? Seems like we're talking a 50+ person approaching retirement. Go through a legit university and not the University of Phoenix type. I got my Master's through ULM online and there wasn't a lot of work involved.

I went through NSU in Natchitoches to finish my undergrad. 100% online, finished about 1.5 years ago. Now going through LSUS to get my MBA. Again, 100% online.
A customer of mine is affiliated with the Army and the Air Force. Says NSU is the route a lot of service guys go.
It can be difficult, especially if you have no prior knowledge of materials your studying since there’s little to no interaction. Go search LSUS on the money board. A lot of folks over there are either in, or have completed, courses there.

Also, my FIL is with Albemarle and they recommend the LSUS MBA.

Depends on the company.
UoP had a campus at Lockheed. No one was attending because they weren’t going to get promoted.
Often the degree is a checkmark. Nothing more.
Or if the company is doing gov work they need your masters so they can bill more. The gov doesn’t pay more for a masters from a state school than UoP.

Most brick and mortar schools have online programs today. Just search for what she would like to major in and find a school offering the degree.

It depends on your field of work. I’m in education. The degree is a check mark that allows you to move into admin positions. No reason to kill yourself driving to a brick and mortar. I got my Masters degree online in 18 months. It took 2 full years of driving everyday for some of my friends. The diploma goes in a drawer and is never looked at again.
