Looks like The Flintstones version of a skateboard.

They are basically like snowboarding. Not the safest tbh

I'll admit it... I have one. I got it because I go snowboarding in the winte and the Onewheel satisfies that itch when I'm back home. It was designed by a snowboarder as a way of giving that same sensation off the snow, and it does just that. I ride it all the time. It's addictive. The Pint is perfect for most. 16 mph is plenty fast. The XR is a tank and can handle nearly any terrain.
Here's a great review of it: LINK
My son is 4 and tries to ride it, but his feet aren't big enough to fully engage the sensors. Soon though.
I'll say this: These aren't toys like those "hoverboards" you get from Wal Mart. These are insanely well built with metal and wood, go kart racing tires, and proprietary technology. They're expensive, but worth every penny, IMO.

I can only imagine how much you embarrass the kid

See anyone ride these things? As tragic as Segways?
I've seen a guy on my commute out in the country use his to take out trash and check mail. His driveway is about 200m long.
Saw two men zoom by on them while tailgating before Auburn game.
I think they are functional for adults and fun for kids and have a niche sustainable market.

I was the only dad yelling at his kid and not the refs/coach when he played youth soccer. He’s past that now, I don’t have to motivate him anymore. I embarrassed myself though.

They look fun but are way to expensive. You'd have to ditch the helmets, they are dorky.
5 blocks to school, get the kid a real skateboard for christmas. He'll be stoked.

Right now he’s going through basketball tryouts for middle school. Made the 2nd cut today so I’ll be dragging him out of bed again on Monday for final round. Cut throat process for 6:00 am

Just got cleared to play sports again today, with no arm motions above his shoulder, after being hurt playing football. He’ll play soccer and run track as well, then I think football starts back in the spring. They just all run together now. He’d love to play basketball, it just takes too much commitment.
Mines in 7th, and this is his first year at the all boys school...which is 7th-12th. Tough sledding with all the older boys, but he’s a great athlete so that helps.
He’s got tryouts for the us national team, soccer, this Sunday, and my heart already hurts for him. Such a long shot, but no rejection is easy. I think you just don’t get called up...so no in-person rejection I don’t think.

I know of two 30+ year old dudes that cruise around on them.
At first I thought it was a little nerdy. Then I tried one and it was cool as frick. Would be great for getting around downtown, etc.

Our local Mastercraft boat store has these and a few kids in our neighborhood got from there. They go pretty fast.

I mean they are the same to me as "hover boards". They are for kids. Idk how old your son is though. As a kid it should be pretty cool though.

Happy to hear he’s healed enough to return!
I think it’s admirable that he has the passion and confidence to dream that big. The experience will be great for him whether he makes the team or not. If he wants to play at that level, he already knows the skill and talent required. If he doesn’t make it this year he can find a couple things to work on until next year tryouts.
If it helps, my son told me they had the boys in 3 lines running 3 on 3 drills today. When the whistle blew, each person went to the back of their line to wait their turn again. Apparently the boys who didn’t make this cut were quietly told to go to the coach’s office where they were told they didn’t make the team and what skills they would work on before trying out next year. My son said he didn’t even notice the boys being pulled until it was obvious the numbers were significantly lower.

These things are all the rage from Hermosa Beach up to Venice.

I think it’d be cool for my son to ride to school and back. When I mention it he’s amazed that I can’t see how uncool they are.
Submit your TD account over to your son, he seems cooler.
