I love my birth year Rolex 16800. Wear it every day.

Nut up and get the nautilus
A 5711 blue dial Nautilus is almost impossible to find under $200,000 now. A white dial is about $175k. The prices are outrageous, I walked out of a dealer 8 years ago with a new one for 1/5th that price and you could have bought one a year ago for $75k on the secondary market.
The 5186 WG Aquanaut in the picture is running about $160k now. People laugh at me when I tell them my watches do better than the stock market...

Because you're stupid and lying to them. The stock market can make millions for one man and wipe out another. Your watch is a gimmicky gamble. But clutch it like a special Birkin Purse if you must.

Get what you want. Nobody cares about what watch you wear. If anything I might think you are stupid for spending that kind of money on jewelry. Because that’s what it is. Maybe get some diamond studs to accent it.
Do what makes you happy.
Do what makes you happy.

White gold Rolex Daytona with the grey dial.

Not absurdly expensive. Say 12-15k or under at a dealer or on the gray market.
This delusional perspective right here is why you MFers deserve the ridicule.

I consider the term out performing the market as out performing the DJIA. In the last 30 years the DJ has about a 6X return, my watches on paper are at 8X. Not lying, not smart, just lucky. Beating the DJIA over 30 years isn't something you can call a gimmick. Currently, the watch market allows for something very similar to arbitrage if you are able (allowed) to purchase a certain class of watch today you can double your money in under a week with essentially no risk. It is an odd but growing asset class just another of the growing number of alternative asset classes. For me it was never meant to be an investment, the money I spent was for the joy of a hobby I love, it just turned out to be a potentially profitable hobby. Just a smaller scale than those that scooped up supercars when they were still only expensive and held them until today when they are ridiculously expensive.

Can you post your watch collection with the price you paid for each watch and show what todays market price is for each watch?

I bet they have nice cocks. But I would speculate that an OTer's propensity to indulge on a watch may be directly correlated to the diamonds owned by women in his family tree.

I think your watches are more likely to become worthless than Exxon stock when it hits the fan.
But I’m happy you are sitting on some tangible assets. That can be stolen.

Earlier in life, I received Timex, Seiko, Citizen, Nautica and other watches as gifts and they were all good looking and accurate keepers of the time. Low profiles, no forearm hair pulling, etc. The Timex was awesome...took several lickings and...you know the rest. Wore watches for 25 yrs.
Now I use my android to keep track of time and haven't worn a watch since the early George W. Administration. But if I had to wear one, probably go with a $200 water proof Nautica or a Timex...orange/blue color highlights if available.
Are pocket watches of interest to anyone anymore?

I always chuckle when people post pictures of some expensive watch on their wrist and you can tell from the background they are sitting in a cubicle at a call center or something like that.

My grandfather had a Regina pocket watch, which was an early subsidiary of Omega. The parts were made in Switzerland and assembled in Canada, where most of them were sold. I don't know how he ended up with it. They were massed produced, so not very rare. A running one goes for about $100. One in perfect condition may bring $1000-1500.
