among my friends on Facebook.

They all get some form of guaranteed check whether through government or retirement.

They're all insulated in some way.

I've noticed a lot of old dumb women that are all for everyone staying inside.

Yep. Along with celebrities, the media, and politicians.

What do they all have in common? Not missing a paycheck/can afford the shutdown.

"Just stay home" is easy when you don't have to worry about putting food on the table.

Personally, every single one I know is retired, housewife or still collecting 100% of their pay.

The two loudest ones are a Social Security lawyer who always works from home anyway and a city employee.

It's a combination of that, the family money crowd and the hip service industry type crowd who bought into AOC's "work is oppressive" ideology before this.

Valid observation.

Teachers, state workers, and minimum wage types enjoying that $600 a week.

If this whole ordeal has taught us anything I think it's that we don't need Daylight Savings Time anymore. I've said it for years but this lockdown has really brought it to the forefront. Maybe it had it's reasons a century ago but lets move on.

Make year round Standard Time part of the new normal.

Of unemployment? Uh, I'm a state worker and have been working this whole time. Same with the teachers and staff I work with.

or, they already work from home so, it doesn't matter to them.

nephew's wife who does medical coding from home constantly tells my other nephew who works in construction that he should be staying home.

easy to say when staying home doesn't = not getting paid.

This is also why 99% of reddit users support the lockdown forever.

If you don't have a job and you don't know how the world works you are for a perpetual lockdown.

People like this are gonna be fricked come 6-12 months. Budgets are gonna be cut bigly. Huge reductions in income and sales tax for the states are going to hurt a lot of people on easy street right now and it absolutely pisses me off no one is discussing it.

I notice a common theme from the lock it down folks is "we're all in this together". If that's true, let's really be all in together. Halt all Social Security payments, city/state/federal pensions and salaries for every politician.

The country would be wide open within hours...

I’ve noticed this as well. I saw one old dumb woman yesterday making the argument that we can stay locked down indefinitely and everything will be fine. And how does she propose everyone survive? Well, she thinks everyone can just plant a garden in their yard and live off it however long it takes to come up with a vaccine.

Exactly, it’s very easy to virtue signal (on a personal level if you’re not being affected) or a big business that can handle losing some revenue, or a politician or part of academia. Real working folks are the ones affected and shite on just like always.

They’re either financially independent enough to not have to worry about not working or already been getting the gubmint cheeses.

All still working.

No comment on the pros/cons of a shutdown, but the hypocrisy here kills me.
OT during federal government shutdown in 2019 “Did these people not save enough money for two to three months? That’s their fault.” OT during Covid19 shutdown “Govt employees are the worst and don’t know how this work and are killing the economy.”
