I’ll give them a Nokia flip phone or an equivalent of that. Sorry, I’m not going to let them go on Instagram, let some pedophile convince them they’re in the wrong body, and start butchering themselves.

I almost finished with my 4 year degree, as I said.

I didn’t blame the GOP leadership, I blamed family members and certain Republican leaning talking heads that have podcasts that speak to young people and try to tell them about how the world really works. Eg you don’t need to go to college.

I am much further right than any of you queers which is why I am more worried about my children being honorable people than what their status is…

This is so dumb. No one is deserving of false accomplishment or weird respect because they were born earlier than you. It creates a perception of entitlement based on existence.

wow

smart phone= becoming trans :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

you realize there is a happy medium where you dont allow instagram until high school or where you monitor instagram and monitor the phone period and you remain an involved father who actually discuss topics with their kid...right?

not everything has to be a screaming match of "I SAID SO" or its my way and i dont need to explain myself to you..

its called communication and discussing topics

my 9th and 7th grader have phones and even have Instagram (i know crazy) and yet arent addicted and dont want to cut their dick off, think trans is weird AF and have developed extremely right wing view points from them just asking questions and me explaining both sides in ways they can understand.

amazing what being a father who is involved and can communicate can do

yall all love to bash mingo...but after this thread I have very very little doubt his kids are going to be way more normal than yalls.

One thing that hasn't come up that I would be curious to learn your opinion on generally for those of us planning for when our tiny kids get older....different restrictions for girls vs. boys? Seems like social media does more harm than good for girls in particular. Worst combo for this is girl with addictive personality. How do we safeguard phones without being too restrictive when it comes to this kind of case? I guess I am not familiar enough with the controls that are out there for parents. I always assumed kids would find a way around parental controls. Very curious about this.

If I was going to be a liberal parent I would want my daughters to have Instagram before my sons… Instagram is gay.

I am pretty anti social media in general (meaning Facebook and Instagram). I deleted mine 5 years ago and never looked back. But if the goal were moderation, how could it be done? The goal is raising kids with good values and habits without ostracizing them from their peers or creating a situation where they go crazy overboard on all this stuff when they get to college and suddenly find themselves free with no restrictions. I get this guy's point that it shouldn't be all or nothing but have real concerns about addiction when these devices and programs are designed TO addict kids.

Amazingly my kids seem to be doing just fine without them and these apps with competitive soccer, training, wrestling, jujitsu, etc.

Literally every study shows social media having more harmful outcomes for girls than boys

just when I'm out they draw me back in! Can you elaborate? Do your kids' coaches send updates in a different manner?

you can...but do they have access to the computer at all times? so when the daily schedule pivots suddenly they are missing practice or an hour late.

Are your kids allowed to bring phones to school? They are banned at my kid's school (PK-8)

Look no further than the weird 35 year old "Swifties" women should not have social media. I will die on that hill.

Family iPad that is only used in the living room or whatever
iPod touch that they can’t take with them places (so it only has wifi that they use at home)

Other than that I dunno man. Decide who you want your kids to be. They can be like everybody else and have Instagram and watch porn when their parents aren’t around etc. I guess they will probably be OK…. We all ended up ok. But who knows. Maybe there is a better way.
