It will be the most shocking news of the year if we aren't. State, parish and the local ridiculous little fiefdoms that exist are the reason we have sub-par schools and roads. They suck so much money out. For no reason except for extortion of the public.

Pick another state. Pennsylvania is a shite hole.

The worst parts of pennsylvania trump the worst parts of louisiana any day of the week.

But I do know what you mean.

Same amount of state workers with 3 times the population. What state has better public education, from K-College?

The small fiefdoms and King Makers on the local and parish level is what kills us. Why is there an East Jefferson Parish Levee District Chief of Police? So his fricking retarded cousin can drive on top of the levee and make not one arrest in his career and earn 45K with full benefits.

This cycle will never end, to much at stake to lose. I'm sure it is the same everywhere, just giving examples from what I see on a daily basis.

Only 20 states have a higher budget than Louisiana regardless of population.

Did not realize that Louisiana's budget was so high. La with a 29 budget compared to 20 for Georgia. Georgia has 10 million people compared to La 4.5 million

Sales tax? What about the one percent on income tax?

That was never even proposed.

What was proposed wa a widening of the top Louisiana income tax bracket, so that more people would pay 6% income tax. Which would really only affect the poors, because the non-poors were already in the upper bracket.

It is part of our culture. The Populists own this state. Roemer is the only one who thought about challenging that and we got Edwards/Duke as a result. Talk about a frick job.

Out of all the southern states La has always been the most big government socialistic. Think it goes back to our days ruled by the French. the smaller the government the better moving forward

What is funny is we are 1 billion short on our budget. 1 billion out of 29. If we acted our size and had the budget of South Carolina we would have almost 5 billion in surplus.

Happened since the 20s with Huey. We could be an incredible state, our allocation of recourses is the worst in the country. It isn't even debatable.

Let's not get rid of lazy state workers that don't do shite, just tax the public some more to pay for them

I've worked in both and I found this to be not true. At least in my experience. I was excited to join the private sector and be surrounded with hard working individuals with ambition. Didn't find that to be the case....at all.
I'm convinced the majority of people are just lazy and are looking to do the minimum to get by. Also, the nepotism in the private sector is laughable. Relatives of VPs making $100k+ who probably put in 5 hrs of work per week and are untouchable.
There are lazy people everywhere. State, local, small business, Fortune 500. People suck.

Eta. LA state treasury needs to stop shipping money off to support local government functions. That's where our numbers get so out of whack compared to similar sized states.
