Will the gauges reflect it?

I would expect to see a large initial drop in the reading if it does breach.

Remember these were photos I posted from earlier this morning too which show one of the worst parts of the road.

"Might" be starting to happen because the Kleinpeter gauge only barely increased over the last hour. It certainly isn't leveling out right now but a small failure of the roadway would make sense.

hope the parish has staff monitoring that road every second right now. If the failure happens the announce it so everyone in the vicinity can GTFO

U got that too? My was from colonel fritz of the national guard. There wasn't anything ground breaking there. And nobody here believed there was a breach because the flow of water hasn't changed all day. At this point, my boys on here have built up more trust with me than some dude named "Fritz"

I don't think this was directed at me.

Why would it initially dip?

It's been a steady .36"/hr increase since 5p.

The failure would give rapid passage to water that is currently stacked up. The reading would drop quickly to reflect the water moving to new space with less resistance. Unfortunately these readings are updated hourly it seems or at least on an hour delay so relying on the readings to signify a road failure could come an hour too late.

Relief of water rushing through would certainly lessen the pressure off the river there which would lower the water levels as water pours with fewer restrictions downriver. The speed of the water would increase significantly though as the water falls. Think of a Dam holding back water but when the dam bursts the water level falls. Same theory.

I gotcha. My brain is fried. I was thinking of the swamp reading instead of the bayou reading. My bad

Less of an obstacle to cross.

I'm making up numbers but if the bayou side is at 10', road is 11' and river side is 12' (where reading is being taken). If the road suddenly becomes 10', the river side won't be held back as high so will drop down until both sides get back to the same level (or new level of road).

Where are you getting this .36" per hour deal?

Gauge readings have gone from 12.09 to 12.17 between 6pm and 9pm.

That's .08 increase over 3 hours. Or .026 per hour.

Maybe I just don't follow you.

The gauges are in feet. .08 of a foot is .96 inches.

The road? Yeah, it'll probably become impassable sooner than later. Homes? Good for now
