Across or I’m on the side of him but not directly beside him.Side by side if sitting at the bar.

Also, I can’t sit with my back to the door.

Always across. Been together with my wife for 20 years and we've never sat next to each other at a table. Only at the bar.

My husband prefers not to sit with his back to the door as well.

Just behavior that stayed with him from his brief time as a cop many years ago.

Next.

Easier to eat more stuff off her plate.
This.

Also depends on how nice the restaurant is.

Across . It's easier to look at and talk with each other. We dont have to be touching in a restuarant, that's what the back seat of the car is for.

Booth? Across

Square table with 4 place settings? - We’re sitting next to each other on connecting sides.

That way, we can mostly see the same view; looking at the big screen; looking out the window; back to the wall; etc. We can also trade plates more easily and whisper to each other more easily.

I’m actually surprised so many people posting in the thread say they sit across the table from their SO. You boys have no game.

If im feeling fancy, ill get a 10 top rectangular table and she will sit on one side and ill sit on the other side. I will then ask the server to remove the remaining 8 chairs because I am a fricking king and I need a long arse table!

Always next to each other.

It makes it easier for hand stuff and can easily make fun of other guest while people watching. I feel like I'm yelling when I sit across from her.
