1. I wasn't talking to you. I was commenting on the thread tone in general.
2. You seem more invested than most in this story. Why is that?

Yeah anyone defending this guy as some sort of family man or he comes from good stock need to fall back. He is being accused of stealing from a childrens hospital and/or embezzling from the entire OLOL system.

I agree he should get what he's got coming, but there's a time and place for that, and all I'm saying is we all should walk a mile in the other guy's shoes before passing judgment, or even just being jerks. Trust me, you don't want me poking around in your life for even one day. Everybody has secrets they'd just as soon not have broadcast around. If you don't, you're not human. BTW, I know him too.
This is a internet message board not some personal grief web sharing site, this guy's life is in the public domain, and is fair game for discussion, and/or speculation.

Yet the courts will still make you post bail, or sit in jail until it is decided in court. A message board is entitled to the same degree of suspicion as the court system.

Poke around all you like and prepare to be bored. You’ll find some things marginally scandalous, but nothing criminal.
Hence the problem. When you have people appointing themselves as arbiters of right and wrong, one man's "marginally scandalous" is another man's "punishable by death". We live by the rule of law and the systems that administrate it, and we have to adhere to this process or we risk a descent into lawlessness and anarchy. You get it now?
This is a truly sad situation all the way around for the community. We expect more from people who are supposed to be in leadership roles, whereas our expectations are essentially non-existent for the trailer-dwelling meth addicts shoplifting from Walmart.
So the disappointment is palpable when things like this happen, because we are both let down by the alleged activity, and saddened by the loss of trust we feel.
It's all just very sad and disturbing, on several levels.

Except the meth head stealing from wal-mart can’t afford the $100,000 to the former US Atty to plead him out to probation and restitution. Meth head from wal-mart gets the overworked PD and jail time when his crime is less harmful to society than well-to-do white collar criminal from a prominent family stealing from children’s hospitals- by your own admission.

my only hope is that his brothers and other family aren’t affected by his misdeeds
Agreed, they don't deserve any backlash. I knew his brother(I'm assuming you mean Dr C. Funes) and his dad when I was a nurse at OLOL peds. Both are amazing doctors with hearts of gold. Just genuinely good people.

Boozie
What I said was we have no expectations of the people who commit petty crime, so no one really cares, but people do care and are outraged and disappointed by something like this from someone of whom we expected better. I wasn't commenting on equity of the criminal justice system.

Privileged white dude committing white collar crime?
Where's the real harm here, you guys?
His father is Cuban and his mother was from South America. Accents and all. Where you get the white privileged bull shite from Dumbass?

Last I looked, this was an internet message board, not a court of law. Opinions are offered here, not legal judgments. Nothing offered here- be it critical or supportive- means anything in the long run. If you or JPF didn’t want (JPF) to be the subject of discussion, he shouldn’t have done anything to garner attention. You get it now?
What’s sad and disturbing is that you view a thread on an an anonymous message board as a threat to law and order and a descent into anarchy.

This thread is a textbook example of institutional racism. All the old white dudes are just so damn quick to hold tight and let the facts play out for 'their guy".
His family is what you liberals would call “people of color.”
People are defending him because they know him personally, not because of some “white privilege.”
Lots of criminal activity by white people is posted on this board and no one defends them.

This is why everything in Louisiana is crap. Everybody involved with anything is skimming at every step of the process.
Sometimes when we bring in food for lunch meetings, I'll stash an extra Sammich or cookie/chips for my son when I pick him up from football/basketball practice.
Much of the food is wasted after the first wave of vultures raid the leftovers.
But is that still wrong?

it's amazing seeing the majority of people in this thread white knighting for this POS.
Wonder how many children suffered because of his crimes?
