holy shite. LINK
Crazy if true. Funes is from a great family of doctors that are still connected to OLOL.

John Paul Funes, president of Our Lady of the Lake Foundation since 2006, has been terminated after the results of a third-party investigation that found a pattern of forgery and embezzlement allegedly committed by Funes, according to a statement from Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, which goes on to say that the matter has been referred to law enforcement.

You can't get enough money until the money gets enough of you.

He is an upstanding guy - from all my dealings with him.
I always admired him and his dedication.
ETA: There's got to be more to this story.

Holy shite is right. They are a great family and if this is true would be an absolute tragedy. He's got a bunch of kids and a nice place in Walnut Hills. I never got the sense that he lived an extravagant lifestyle or anything like that.
I'm hoping it all works out for the best, whatever that is.
But it's clear that the hospital system depends so heavily on fundraising that even small transgressions cannot be tolerated. I hope that's all it is, and the guy can salvage a life. Otherwise he's finished in Baton Rouge.
What a shame...

If they're referring to law enforcement and announcing this to the media he is fricked.

Don't care how upstanding his family is. If true, he is a complete piece of shite that should rot in jail.

Baton Rouge just loves to eat it’s own.

Knew about it this morning. A customer of mine that worked on it said you'll be shocked at what he did.

How much money are we talking here? 6 figures? 7 figures?

Pure speculation, but often something else is involved in situations like this. A seemingly upstanding guy with plenty of income doesn’t start breaking the law because he wants a little more money.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he had a string of bad investments, and needed money to keep his current lifestyle afloat.
Or, had a girlfriend on the side. A side piece can become expensive, and those expenses are hard to hide from the wife.

Let the facts play out. We should treat him the way we'd all like to be treated if every mistake we ever made and every secret we ever had in our lives were suddenly revealed for all the world to see, because that's what he's going to be going through here pretty shortly.
I think we'll find that he didn't get into any of this with nefarious intent, but once you start this sort if thing, it's hard to stop, and just gets bigger and bigger. It's sort of like a gambling addiction; you always think you're right around the corner from catching up, but you never do.
He's got a really nice family, and I hate to see them having to go through what they are about to go through.

He didn't get into specifics, but he said it was substantial. Their investigation did not necessarily include the why's but how he did it and how much. They pretty much know the whys though.....said it had been going on for a while . It's being referred to the US Attorney and the IRS has gotten involved

I went to high school with him. He seemed like an upright sort of guy.
If true, it’s bound to be a story worth telling and learning from. We are all susceptible to temptation given certain circumstances.
Doing the right thing is often harder than you think it will be, and the right path is sometimes hidden.
