I was helping my friend clean out his grandparent’s house after, you know... (don’t ever volunteer for this)

I came across this thing in the attic and he said I could just have it.

I’m positive it’s some sort of “training tool” for Morse code, based on the placard at the bottom left. I’ve done some googling and I can’t seem to find anything to indicate where it’s from, what year, etc.

Any help would be cool. TIA.

You can do a continuity test to see it still works. Nice find.

It seems like it “clicks” like it’s supposed to. I mean, I’m not so much interested in selling it or using it or anything... it’s more of a curiosity thing(?)

I’m just wondering if it’s maybe WWI / WWII, which I kind of hope it is.

I want to donate it to a museum or something if it is legit, if that makes sense.

I know that the US, the Brits, the Aussies, and several other allied countries used Morse way back... it would be cool to know that I have a piece of iconic WW memorabilia.

My assumption is it’s post WW1 by the way the writing is printed on the back.
Maybe mid 30’s

There’s a clue as to its use on the device.

There’s a handle. That means it’s portable. Field telegraph of some sort?

Agreed, but the small placard says “Buzzer Sig Training”

What city you found this or what’s the family lineage? Are they from a military family? Was the house in a big industrialized city? Old farm town? These can answer the question why it’s in their possession.

From googling, it looks like it’s WWII era and everything I see is from British websites. Maybe it’s a British Morse code training tool?

It was found in a rather large, old house in Pittsburgh, PA and the family lineage is English/Irish... (just kind of assuming/guessing)

Handle is to slide your hand in to control the pad so it doesn’t slide around while sending a message. Left hand in, right hand to send and write down received message stop

As I said, I googled as well and got some “Australian” sites... so is it British or Australian, do you think?

Everything I’ve seen is British, but I really don’t know.
