Old LSU coach, Jerry Stovall, has died

Stovall was a unanimous All-American for the Tigers in 1962. He was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year and won the Walter Camp Memorial Trophy the same season. He went on to be the second overall pick in the 1963 NFL Draft and was a three-time Pro Bowler during his nine seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals.

His No. 21 hangs retired in Baton Rouge, a tribute to a player who did just about everything the game asked of him.

Big deal.
I know tons of people that have done better for humanity 1000x more than him but because he plays football well we should idolize him more than others.

Billy Cannon is another one. Straight up criminal but because he won the Heisman we present him as a hero.

He really was a great guy and gave back to the community. Folks who don't know should be careful about judging. If more people were more like Stovall and cared about the community like he did, Baton Rouge would be a better place.

Back in the 90's I helped out with a charity 5K race and got partnered with Jerry. It was a couple of hours until I found out that "Jerry" was Jerry Stovall. Holy shite! I still have a Keep Jerry sign from my younger days. Super nice guy and a hard worker who had no ego involved in being at that race. He was simply there to help with some pretty menial stuff.
RIP to a good man.
