Kind of sad the realtor couldn't even do a decent staging with some furniture for the pics in the ad. That whole house is depressing as hell.

If you stepped out the tub onto the carpet, you'd have to get back in and bathe again

People who built mansions in the 70s and 80s.

1.4 million for a house that hasn't been renovated in any way shape and form since the Nixon administration....sure, solid investment

$1.5 million, and it'd likely take a few hundred grand to do a complete update inside.

It's a lot more than a few hundred grand. I would guess at least a million dollars to gut the inside to get rid of all the tacky.

Maybe so. I don't know that area to know if that price is reasonable. I do know that if I was looking for a house in the New Orleans area, and my house budget was $1.5 million, I certainly wouldn't be looking at houses in Metairie.

depends on the quality of the construction, all of the tackiness you see is mainly cosmetic and relatively cheap to upgrade, I bought an old executive mansion that was in foreclosure back in the early nineties, it was built first class in every detail but was very dated, I lived in it while remodeling it, it was a very cool house on five and a half acres, and flipped it within 2-3 years, made about $225k profit on the deal, I didn't even have $10k in it, new flooring, redid the kitchen, was a pretty cool kitchen, I've lived in smaller apartments some new appliances, it had an 1100 sq.' guest house behind it, re-did that(paint, flooring, bathroom,) that's about it
