I miss circling things I wanted in the Sears catalog

No phones or email. Had to pick up the landline and hope someone answered the other end. Otherwise gotta hop on your bike to pedal to your friend's house to see what they were up to.
Penny candy at the corner store. I though I hit the jackpot when a brought a dollar in and counted out 100 swedish fish.
Really great music that will live on for generations. How much music since 2000 will?

Folks who never got the wish book from Sears missed out on one of the greatest things that ever happened to kids. It seems like Amazon has sent a kind of wish book in the mail around Christmas but I may have just thought it'd be a good idea...

Has anyone mentioned Athlon or Lindy's College Football Preview Magazines prior to the internet???? I would think a good many people on this forum would remember eagerly looking for those to hit the stand so you could read how good your team was going to be in the coming season. They even went as far a to put a picture of the local team on the cover...I know they still sell them but I haven't picked on up in years and have not heard anyone mention one in years...that info is no available 24-7 from the end of bowl season to kick off of the next...

Good ole Saturday morning cartoons
Yeah they can watch them anytime now, but the rarity had its place. Bowl of Capn Crunch or cocoa pebbles ( on Sat) and a couple hours of bugs bunny was 7 yr old heaven
ETA... Then get ready for a little league game.

Scene:
School has just let out on a friday. A couple of your friends brought an overnight bag so they ride home with you. On the way home, you stop by Blockbuster, pick out a game or two, a couple movies, and loads of candy and drinks for the night. You get home and the N64 session begins. After a while, you hear a call for dinner and walk to the kitchen to see either boxes of pizza or takeout chinese.
End scene.
Pure heaven.

Reading the sports section after a high school game to see your name in it.
Guessing the time we'd be home from a car ride home (no gps)
Ordering shorts from Eastbay and waiting for 2-3 weeks to get them.

Seeing kids walking and riding bikes to school.
My kids's school is a bit over a mile away, and they bike. On the random days I do drive them, there's legit 100s of kids who leave walking or biking.

From a local standpoint...Steinberg's Sporting goods on St Phillips St in BR....Also in BR- the Goudchaux's on Main St...I know some of the older folks remember the hot cashews you could buy- the smell of them was like a magnet.
Going to a stadium sporting event without it seeming like you were entering a maximum security prison....safe streets in Baton Rouge. Local TV programming...
Too many things to name, sadly....Despite all of the really great things we have today, you guys missed a lot of great stuff from those days. Wish y'all could have experienced it....the simpler life offered a lot of good times.
