The owner could still access those funds without the card
If only you guys would be willing to take what amounts to about 20 seconds of time to read an entire OP.

Once the card’s account balance is determined, the officer can use the device to freeze the funds, preventing withdrawal or use of the money in the account, or seize the funds by having them transferred to a law enforcement financial account, the patent states
Literally in the first post of the thread.

There is no justification for any law enforcement officer to be able to seize any legal property without giving a suspect his due process which is a constitutional right, and there is no viable reason for such technology, other than to illegally seize someone's property.
The fact that this evening exists is a blatant abuse of authority and any law enforcement organization that endorseshe it's use should be investigated for fraud.

It should not be legal.
One more step in the loss of freedom.

Well, you can assume that if it's in Oklahoma now, it's been everywhere else for at least a decade.

Do you have some stories to share? Or are we just going to take your word for it?
Man, there are hundreds of fricked up stories about this. Just google it.
There was a damn 60 Minutes about innocent people getting everything seized in a traffic stop and never being able to get it back. Like out of state, commuting contractors with thousands in cash, etc.

The vehicle-mounted scanners are also capable of retrieving and storing limited account information from other cards as well, such as banking debit cards, credit cards and “payment account information from virtually any magnetic stripe card,”

Actually from what I read they were hand me downs from DHS, from like 2012/2013.
