My future BIL is living up in Oklahoma is looking for work and to move his family down here to South Louisiana.

Putting aside how bad the oilfield is doing right now, the problem he has is that he has a non-violent felony on his record for selling pot about 5 or 6 years ago.

Would and could he get hired by anybody? And if so, who? He'd definitely start at the bottom and has been working in construction the last few years.

The felony will be an issue with some employers.

He should get that expunged, if the state in which he was convicted will allow it.

Never said he was haha.

Figured I'd do him a solid and at least ask around though.

Up until recently a DWI was a no go on hiring for a lot of companies. With the down and a felony I would guess he has a slim chance at best. If he wants to get paid shite and work with unsavory characters he can try tank cleaning. They always have thugs working for them.

Don't know about now but when I worked offshore in the early 90's I think I was one of the few without a felony.

Does he get the good shite from Colorado and resell it? If so, I'm interested.

He will need a TWIC card for any decent job in the oilfield. Five years is right in the threshold where the TSA can still deny his application for a TWIC. Throw in the number of qualified non-felons for any openings and his best bet would be to find gainful employment and wait for oil to rebound when he has more time between his felony for the TSA and hiring managers are a little more lenient when in a bind for a warm body.

Yup, they get hired all the time. My brother is one and he works in the oilfield and has for years. It's currently a desolate market for roughnecks, but there are some jobs available.

Houma is dead at the moment.

From what I understand from reading this board felonies are encouraged for oilfield work and may actually help him find a job.
